CASE-Nirmal Pvt. Limited
Nirmal Pvt. Limited is a FMCG company, selling a range of products. It has 1150
sales outlets. A sample of 60 sales-outlets was chosen, using random sampling
for the purpose of sales analysis. The sample consists of sales-outlets from
rural and urban areas belonging to the four regions of the country- Northern,
Eastern, Western, Southern. The information related to annual sales has been
was collected from them in the month of December 2010. This process has
been repeated in December 2011. In the meanwhile, in 2010 a comprehensive
sales-promotion program was launched to augment the sales.
Objectives
Derive meaningful information from the data of the case.
Find Nirmal Pvt Ltd has more number of outlets in which area?
Conclude that there is significant difference between sales of Urban
and Rural outlets?
Conclude that there is significant difference between sales of
different regions?
Conclude that Nirmal Pvt Ltd has equal presence in rural and urban
centers as well as different regions of the country?
For Counting the number of stores I have used excel to sort the data and
count. The result was as follows:-
In this sample the number of stores in the Rural Area are 29 while in the
Urban Area the number of stores is 31.
I have first filtered the data area wise to calculate the different average
sales in different areas. Then I have calculated the mean of sales of both
the years and then average them to get average sales. For Urban Area
we got Rs.130.23(in thousands)and for Rural Area the average sales that
we derived was Rs.137.37(in thousands) I observed that the average
sales are higher in the rural area where there are comparatively less
number of stores. The difference in average sale is of Rs.7.14(in
thousands). We are using mean here because there is no extreme value
present in the given sample.
I have first filtered the data area wise to calculate the different average
sales in different regions. Then we calculate the mean of sales of both
the years and then average them to get average sales.
The average sales or mean in different regions are:
Northern: Rs. 133.3(in thousands).
Eastern: Rs. 137.7(in thousands).
Southern: Rs.138.67(in thousands)
Western: Rs.126.36(in thousands).
I have used mean here because there is no extreme value present in the given
sample. I have observed that the average sales in the Southern region is the
maximum then next is Eastern, then comes Northern and last comes Western.
The difference in the average sales among these region is varied. As we see
that the difference between southern and eastern is very low[Rs.0.97(in
thousands)], but then the difference increases as we compare it with the
northern region[Rs.5.37 (in thousands)], and finally there is a huge difference
in the average sales of the southern region and western region[Rs.12.31(in
thousands)].
The data in this sample is divided into a ratio of 31: 29 among Urban and
Rural area. This sample is further categorized into four regions.
To compare the data it can be simply said that as we have mentioned in
the above points rural areas are able to generate more average sales.
Therefore, I can say that in all different regions the sales of rural area is
higher than that of urban area.
