From the experiment, it can be proved that the performance of compressor is

characterized by shaft necessary to produce increase and efficiency factors that indicates how

much additional work is. The variant speed was conducted to determine the different flow rate,

efficiency and the flow rate of the air. From the results, it seems that the flow rate of greater

speed is higher compare to slower fan speed. Increases of speed means more air pass the

compressor, thus increase the air flow rate.

At speed of 10000 rpm and 11000 rpm, the maximum efficiency reaches 100%, while at

speed 1200 rpm and 1300 rpm the maximum efficiency 87.32% and 72.32% respectively. This

shows that the maximum efficiencies decrease as the air flow rate increase. This is because it

has achieved the pump specific speed. For axial condition the pump specific speed is around

10000 rpm to 11000 rpm. So, above the speed the efficiency would decrease.

The shaft turns the blades at high rate of speed. In the centrifugal compressor, the

pressure ratio was highest for speed 1100rpm 191.76961W. The efficiency of the compressor is

100% at temperature of the compressor are 36.7180 and temperature out are 37.9588.For the

lowest pressure ratio was 3077W. At temperature in of the compressor 37.2070 while out are

40.5272 at efficiency 0.39%.

While for the shaft turns blade at rate of 1200ppm, the pressure ratio for the compressor

is 253.5377 at temperature in 37.3043 and temperature out of the compressor are 40.0391C at

efficiency at 100%. For the lowest pressure ratio compressor work need to turn the shaft at

125.4009W at temperature in 37.6953C and temperature out of the compressor are 41.1 at

efficiency at 67.75. So the total compressor ratio T2/T1 across the compressor is related to the

pressure ratio by isentropic process.

The pressure ratio across the compressor for the rational speed of 1300rpm the the shaft

turns the power 164.0625 at temperature in 37.4023 and temperature out are 41.1133 from the

compressor at efficiency at 100%. The lowest pressure ratio For compressor work need to turn

the shaft are 470.7031 at temperature in 38.0589 and temperature out of the compressor are

44.2382 at efficiency at 8.32%

In the centrifugal compressor the, pressure ratio was highest for speed 1400rpm are

226.5625 at temperature in 37.2070 and temperature out of the compressor are 42.2852 at

efficiency at 100%. While, for the lowest pressure ratio compressor work need to turn the shaft at

593.7500 W at temperature in 38.3789 C and temperature out of the compressor are 45.961 at

efficiency at 8.22%.

During this experiment, there are some error that should be considered. Firstly, the

adjustment of speed button and the angle of butterfly valve during the experiment may cause the

inconsistent result. This problem can be overcome by make a consistence adjustment of the both

rpm button and the butterfly valve in order to get more accurate result. Then the effect of

humidity should also be consider as it may affect the result data because different humidity will

caused the speed of air movement to different between the ideal humidity. Usually the higher

humidity will caused the slower of the speed of air movement. Another thing that should be

reconsidered in this experiment is the temperature detector. The temperature detector may also

become error on making the temperature reading. Some of the temperature detector might have

less efficiency to read the temperature accurately because of some factor such as a long-term of

using it. To overcome this problem, the temperature detector must be checked periodically to get

more accurate result of temperature reading.

From the result that we obtain, we observe that the highest efficiency of compressor when
running with the speed 10000 rpm. Follow by the speed 11 000 rpm. This is because at this

speed, the compressor running better than others speed condition. At his speed also give better

performance than the others.

By referring the graphs efficiency vs. flow rate, we can see that the efficiency at speed

10000 rpm higher than others and it only produced lower flow rate than other. Meanwhile at

speed 13000 rpm, the curve show that it is in stable condition. Even it efficiency lower but it

can produce higher flow rate. For speed 11000 and 12000 rpm, both of them are in the

medium condition.

By referring the graphs total pressure vs. flow rate, the speed 13000 rpm required

more pressure than other. It also in the stable condition and produce more flow rate than

other. The lowest was at speed 10000 rpm curve that in unstable condition.

By referring the graphs temperature of inlet and outlet vs. flow rate; we also observe

that the highest outlet temperature is at speed 13000 rpm and the lowest at 1000 rpm speed.

This is because of the compressor produce more energy at the high speed than the inlet

temperature. For all the speeds measurement, the inlet temperature values were almost similar

(ambient temperature). The most important are the outlet temperature values.

Our opinion is the speed 10000 rpm is the stable condition to running the compressor.

To produce more flow rate and high temperature the more speed is much better. But, the

compressor cannot be operates at high speed to avoid the compressor from damage.
