Objectives of Coursework:
On successful completion of this assignment, students will be able to:

1. Apply the correct use of grammar, sentence types and mood in answering their grammar quiz in
Task 1.

2. Demonstrate appropriate listening and speaking skills in response to various stimuli in groups in
role play in Task 2.

3. Apply appropriate reading strategies to various texts for reading comprehension and transfer
information into 2 graphic organizers in Task 3.

4. Write coherently various text types in essay writing in Task 4.

Task Specification:

Task 1 Grammar Quiz (40%)


Individual Work

Structure and short questions will be distributed and submitted after the quiz is
over. Time frame 1hr 30 minutes.
Tasks will be marked against the marking criteria set for this task.

Task 2 - Role Play (10%)


Group work (group of 4 - 6)

The topic for the role play can be based on the articles selected for Task 2 or any suitable
topics on current issues. Role Play is about 30 minutes.

Student should prepare the script for own reference during the role play and a copy for
the lecturer but assessment will only based on the presentation.

The group presentation will be assessed based on:

Task 3 2 Graphic Organizers (20%)


Group work ( 3 in a group)

Students are required to choose two different articles of their own choice related to social
and academic contexts, or any current issues.
Transform the articles into two graphic organizers.

Attach the articles together with your graphic organisers. (Appendixes)


Citation of URL should be written if the articles are from the internet.

Graphic Organiser will be marked based on:


o Sequence of information ordered and organization of the graphic
o Layout; colours and visual appeal.
o Main concept and sub-concepts from main idea.
o Grammatical and spelling.

Task 4 Essay Writing(30%)


Individual Work

Prepare one essay writing of about 1000 words (based on one of the topics given) and not
more than 1010 words.
The essay can be expresssed based on your own ideas, opinions, experienced and
reading. Examples can also be provided in your writing.

Choose one of the suggested topics below:

1. Technology is supposed to solve our problems, but sometimes it just complicates


them. Write about a time when technology made your life more difficult.

2. Are women better at compromising and collaborating than men? Yes or No. Justify
your argument.

Essay Writing will be assessed based on:

o Coverage and content of main ideas in relation to topic.


o Grammar,spelling and punctuation.
o Use of standard written English.
o Syntax and word choice.
o Cohesive and coherent

The procedures are as follow:


i. The length of written essay should be about 1000 words and not more than 1010
words.
ii. For Task 2,Task 3 and Task 4, the words should be typed using font Arial, size
11 and 1 spacing.
iii. References should be stated and follow a standard system, e.g. APA system if
required.
iv. Prepare a table of content.
v. Plagiarism is strongly prohibited.
