Intern, Cary High School, Cary, NC 2015-Present

Planned and conducted individual counseling sessions, classroom guidance lessons, and small groups to promote the
academic, personal/social, and career development of students at Cary High School.
Provided consultation for parents and teachers concerning students academic and personal/social needs.
Collaborated with teachers, case managers, and administration regularly to best serve the student and their
demonstrated academic, personal/social, or career planning need.
Collected and analyzed academic achievement, behavior, and attendance data to improve the delivery of the school
counseling program.
Worked with the School Counseling department to plan, execute, and participate in multiple school wide events
including a College and Career Planning Night and Curriculum Fair.

Volunteered to share personal experience with college and career planning as a low-income African American high
school student to current high school students at a local charter school.

Served as an Americorps National Service member to organize and execute college nights, college application
workshops, SAT preparation sessions, college visits, financial aid nights, and FAFSA workshops at two public, rural
high schools throughout the academic year. Worked in conjunction with the School Counseling Departments of both
schools for two full academic years.
Specifically targeted low-income, underrepresented, and first generation students.
Increased college application submissions by 21% in the 2013-3014 academic school year.

The Dean E. Smith Opening Doors Fund was created to honor the legendary basketball coach Dean E. Smith. The
fund annually awards one outstanding School of Education student who demonstrates leadership, service, and
excellence.
