Closing Reflection

It is has been a pleasure compiling this portfolio and hopefully has been as

enjoyable for you the reader. My writing goals at the start of the course were to build on

my research technique and to then express my findings to the reader. I appreciate you

taking this opportunity to peruse my writings and hope you find the rest of this reflective

piece as interesting.

The assignment in this portfolio that is my best work was the Poem of Me. The

reason I believe this was my best work is that it pushed me to be self-analytical and to

then to express my inner thoughts with the reader. I found the process of analyzing my

fears and expressing them less potent. In my poem I projected my fears on the dogs, this

allowed me to expose my own fears through the character of the dog in the poem Dogs

fear being alone, forgotten, snakes

The most difficult piece in my portfolio to write was the Authors of The

Romantic Era. In this composition, I had to research different authors most of which I

had not heard of prior to commencing this course. The research had to draw a correlation

between the different authors and then express my assessment of the writers and their

works. This required researching and reviewing more authors than I finally used to write

my paper, additionally, I was exposed to a lot of new writing styles.

My writing goals at the start of the course were to build on my research technique

and to then express my findings to the reader. A prime example of the is in my piece on

Global Warming. This allowed me to explore thesis building, compiling research and

coming to a conclusion. A topic such as Global Warming has significant data with
numerous contradictions making it complicated to draw a solid conclusion as there are

many arguments and counter arguments. The process required me to remain unbiased on

what can be an emotionally charged topic for some readers, but as a writer, I learned the

importance of neutrality when compiling a fact based argument.

I have learned a great deal about my writing during this course and specifically in

the compiling of my portfolio. Throughout the course, I have explored authors that I had

not previously heard of, read Macbeth and analyzed what Shakespear was leading the

audience to in his story. It became clear to me the importance of the written word prior

to movies and television and how a well-written story can spark great imagery and

curiosity in the reader. Additionally, this course has given me the opportunity for me to

focus on the mechanics of writing and ensure I have built a flow for my essay prior to

starting. I am familiar with the more mechanical scientific reporting style of writing but

this course has given me the opportunity to explore and express a more creative style of

writing through poetry and self-reflection. I view writing as a journey of which I am

excited to continue. I hope you enjoyed my portfolio and thank you again for taking the

time to read it.
