1 Issues/ Problems/ Incidents

The first issue I faced this week was the arrangement of the modules for my
lessons. Since I was given 6 periods per week by our schol adminstrators, I faced
problems in arranging the modules. There was actually 10 periods of English lesson
in a week. The SK schools have longer syllabus, hence it was more demanding to
squeeze into just six periods compared to the last practicum in SJK school.
My second issue was the sitting arrangement in my class. The class was very
packed and it was very hard for me to move around. The pupils number were really
large and therefore the class had very little space for me to change their
arrangements.
My third issue was the group arrangement of the class. Since the KSSR syllabus
encourage pupils autonomy, my lesson planning often involve group work. I wanted
to encourage them to mix around and enjoy the cooperation with other pupils.
However, the class was too large and hence dividing them into groups is a huge
challenge for me.

2 Views and feelings towards issues/ problems/ incidents

I thought that it was very unconvient for me at first. I have planned to carry out three
modules in a week. Following this arrangement, I will have to wait for four weeks to
finish my syllabus. Which is one topic for one month. I am thinking of using half an
hour lesson for the Grammar skill.
I have yet to start practising group routines with my pupils. However, having to
experience huge classes problem with my last practicum pupils, I believe I will be
able to handle the eight groups in my class. I have also came up with a tag for grup
leaders so I get to reselect a new group leader every week.
I hope the seating arrangement in the class will not affect my activities time with my
pupils. They seemed to enjoyed their new seating arrangements after I have shifted
their seats when I first entered their class. The group work problem is yet to be
reviewed since I have not started the routine with them.

3 Analysis on Issues

3.1 Reasons

The time was limited as the number of periods were reduced.

The pupils number was large and the class was small.
There were limited space for activities to be carried out in the class.

3.2 Strengths/ Weaknesses

Strengths

I have managed to arrange the seating arrangements with my pupils so that I

can have more space to monitor their progress.
I have also carried out both learning styles test and diagnostic test with my pupils
and this had helped me understand my pupils better. It also gave me a
comprehensive background knowledge of what my pupils can do and cannot do.

Weakness

Pupils sitting arrangement was very difficult to be changed.

Pupils were very active when I gave them activities. Otherwise, they were quite
passive and queit.

3.3 Effects if no actions were taken

There will always be a lot of obstacles on my way when I wanted to move around
in the class.

4 Suggestions for improvements

Lable pupils tables for group work.

Introduce token system.
Rearrange classroom sitting arrangement.
Reinforce rules everyday.
Adjust the time for each modules. Perhaps some module can be shifted into a short
half an hour lesson. E.g. Grammar.
5 Time frame to solve the problems

I hope to solve all the problems by the third week, before the observation by my
supervising lecturer.

6 Actions for improvements

I will paste the group number on pupils table for me to remember their groups more
easily.
I will think of a plan and arrange the pupils in a more organised way.
I will give my pupils more activities in the future so that the learning environment is
fun and encouraging.
