History
The game of volleyball, originally called mintonette, was invented in 1895 by
William G. Morgan
First official Game in 1896 at YMCA
Volleyball was then accepted into the Olympics

What is Volleyball

Volleyball is one of the most popular sports to play in the world. Two
teams, separated by a high net, hit a ball back and forth over the net
between the teams. Each team is allowed three hits to get the ball over
the net to the other team. A point scored if the ball hits the ground in the
opponents court, if the opponents commit a fault, or if they fail to return
the ball properly.

Volleyball is a very active sports that provides an excellent level of aerobic


exercise. It also helps players in their hand-eye coordination and the
ability to override the instinctive desire to dodge a fast- moving object such
as a ball.
Basic Rules

Two teams of six players separated by a net;

Players may touch the ball three times;

Matches are best-of- five;


Skills

There are six basics skills:


Serve
Pass
Set
Attack
Block
Dig
Serve
A player stands behind the baseline and serves the ball;
Position 1(one);
Ace;
Types of serves,
Pass
A player try to handle the opponents serve or another form of attack;
Underarm pass;
Overhand pass,
Set
Usually is the second contact that a team makes;
Generally overhead set
Attack
Usually is the third contact a team makes;
Ideally the contact with the ball is made at the apex or the hitters jump;
Attacking techniques
Block
Techniques that the players standing at the net made to stop or alter an attack;
Single, double and triple block
Dig
1. The ability to prevent the ball from touch the court after an attack.
2. Overhead dig and underarm dig
3. Specific techniques

Player Specialization
There are five positions:
Setter
Opponent hitter/ right side hitter
Outside hitter/ lift side hitter
Middle hitter
Libero

The physical activities involved in playing volleyball will strengthen the upper
body, arms and shoulders as well as the muscles of the thighs and lower legs. Playing
volleyball also tones and strengthens the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
Improved circulation circulates more blood, oxygen and nutrients throughout the body,
improving the bodys functions and your overall health and well-being.
Benefits
Volleyball involves specific technical and physical skills, including serving,
passing, setting, jumping, reacting, changing pace and direction, blocking, attacking and
digging. So, regular play will help improve your agility, overall flexibility, reaction time,
speed and upper and lower body strength. Playing games such as volleyball can turn
otherwise boring exercise into a fun activity that you actually look forward to each week.
