NIIT Assessment System: NAS
The objectives of developing an integrated and centralized examination system called
NIIT Assessment System (NAS):
Improve productivity and operational efficiency
Gain maintenance advantage for updating question bank
Ensure academic integrity & security
Make NIIT assessment at par with the industry standards
Enhance exam conducting and taking experience
The test items repository is centralized, which means the test items need not be sent to the
centers for local integration. Thus, any change in the test item happens in the central
repository only. Thereafter, all the tests generated will have the updated version of the
questions.
The same test item can be attached to various tests. Therefore, there is no redundancy and
traceability of the test items is easy. Any change in the test item ensures that all the tests
using that item are using the latest version.
The new assessment system is tightly integrated with eNCOREVista for test scheduling as
well as for marks updation. In this system, the test can only be conducted on the appraisal
date mentioned in the SAP log. In addition, this simplifies the process of scheduling and
marks import with the click of a button.
After benchmarking with other industries, the new test engine is designed on the hybrid
model. This means it is neither completely offline nor online. In this hybrid model, the
dependency on Internet availability is only at the time of downloading the test packs and
uploading the student responses. The test pack is the question paper that gets generated by
the online NAS Server. Once the student responses are uploaded to the online server, the
online system evaluates student responses, and students can view their score sheet from
NIIT student website, www.niitstudent.com/intl/. This makes the new system at par with
the industry standards.
In addition, the new system can support various types of test items that the other
industries are supporting like MCQs/MMCQs/Subjective/coding.
The new assessment system provides a proctors interface to enable better control with the
proctor/invigilator. This interface helps the proctor in enabling/ approving a students
test once he logs in. It also helps the proctor monitor the various states of the student
taking tests. eg. Absent-> Test Started->In Progress-> Submitted->Graded etc
The new assessment system also enhances exam taking experience for the students. The
students get a bigger interface to read the questions and view the associated images on the
same screen. An exhaustive test summary screen helps him in reviewing attempted/
U.4 NIIT Assessment System User Manual for IEB V2.1 NIIT
unattempted/ bookmarked questions before submitting the test. In addition, if during the
test any student-node gives problems, the student can be moved to continue the test from
that stage to another node without losing time.

Process Flow of the Exam
The flow of the examination process is as follows:
1. Test Scheduling: The various roles & responsibilities involved in this phase are:
Center NAS Champ:
Send appraisal logs from eNCOREVista to the centralized NAS server
between 7 days to 48 hrs prior to the appraisal date.
Once the appraisal (SAP) log is received by the online test engine, it
generates the test packs and emails the Test Key to the center NAS
Champs email id (This email id is configured by the HO DIS Champ when
a center is provided with NAS.) The Test Key is used to download the test
packs and also to conduct the test.
Receive e-mail messages from the online test engine regarding proctor
login ID and password.
Receive e-mail messages from online test engine regarding examination
download and other information required to conduct the exam such as a test
key.
Share information regarding Center proctor login and password with all
invigilators/proctors.
Share information regarding test download and test conduct, such as test
key, with the respective proctors.
2. Downloading Test Packs: The various roles & responsibilities involved in this phase
are:
Center NAS Champ:
Download test packs by providing Center Proctor login, password and test
key on proctor application icon Proctor_a_Test. This application is
available on the desktop of the MR server or in All Programs menu of the
MR server.
Proctor needs to download the test pack a day prior or before the exam.
3. Student taking test: The various roles involved in this phase are:
Student:
Take the test by using the student application icon Take_a_Test available
on the desktop on the student node or in All Programs menu of student
node.
Submit test by using student application.
4. Proctoring Assessments: The various roles involved in this phase are:
Proctor/Invigilator:
U.8 NIIT Assessment System User Manual for IEB V2.1 NIIT
Allow a student to take test: Proctor can allow a student to take the test
after validating that student is not a defaulter and is a valid student.
Proctor can validate the same by checking student names on the SAP
log. The SAP log should be taken on the day of the test. Proctor needs to
take the signature of the students on the SAP log.
End\Cancel a students test: Proctor can end the test of the student who
has not submitted the test and left the student node as is or switched off
the student node. Proctor can cancel the test if a student has done any
mischief or is a defaulter. The cancelled test cannot be restored. Student
will be marked absent for the test and will need to give supplementary
test. The cause of cancelling the test will be uploaded to the centralized
NAS server.
Upload students responses to centralized NAS server: Proctor needs to
upload student responses to centralized NAS server after student has
submitted the test.
Unlock user account: Proctor can unlock the user account in case the
students test gets interrupted due to network failure or power failure.
After unlocking the user account, proctor can approve the students test
and the test resumes.
Declaring test completion: At the end of the exam, when all the students
who have taken the exam in the batch are marked graded, proctor needs
to declare the test as completed. After test completion declaration, batch
entry appears in eNCOREVista for import of marks from online test
engine.
5. Importing scores to eNCOREVista: The role involved in this phase is:
Center NAS Champ:
Import the scores of the tests conducted to eNCOREVista after ensuring
the eNCOREVista run date should be >=SAP date.
6. Student viewing score card: The various roles involved in this phase are:
Student:
View the score card on www.niitstudent.com/Intl after giving
registration number and appraisal code of the tests given in NAS.

Proctoring Supplementary Exams
A supplementary exam is quite similar to normal exams except that in place of batch code,
supplementary exams have supplementary code (SPATY code). One particular SPATY
code may contain various appraisal codes like CFSV21MTE1, T1SMC1MTE1,
T1SMD1MTE2, and T1SMB1MTE1. Therefore, proctoring for a supplementary exam
needs to be done in a slightly different manner. Each SPATY code is identified by a
unique Sequence Number and each appraisal code within a SPATY code is identified by a
unique Appraisal Id.The center examination in-charge will receive an email containing the
Test Key for each unique appraisal code within a particular supplementary exam. The
proctor needs to take printout of each e-mail and keep it for reference while proctoring.
To conduct a supplementary test, perform the following steps:
U.46 NIIT Assessment System User Manual for IEB V2.1 NIIT
4. Click the link of the desired sequence number under the Sequence Number column

FAQs
1. What precautions should I take while exporting the appraisal log to the online
test engine?
Ensure that all student names are appearing in the appraisal log. If any student name is
