GPRS: The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a new
packet data bearer service developed based on the Global
SystemforMobileCommunications(GSM).
GSM:TheGlobalSystemforMobileCommunications(GSM)isa
standarddevelopedbyEuropefordigitalmobilenetworktoenable
network operators around the world to use the same mobile
network standard and users to roam and switch carrierswithout
replacingphones.
APN: The Access Point Name (APN) is a mandatory parameter
foryoutoaccesstheGPRSnetwork.Itdeterminesinwhichmode
youaccesstheGPRSnetwork.
Note: To check the APN, see 3 Check GPRS Information for APN
settings,see2.2SetGPRSConnectionParameters.
WAP: The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is a globally
uniformopenprotocolstandardusedtoprovideInternetcontents
and advanced valueadded services for mobile terminals. It is a
simplifiedwirelessInternetprotocol.TheWAPcombinesInternet
withthemobilephonetechnologytomakeitpossibleforusersto
access rich Internet resources anytime anywhere. The WAP
serviceenablesmobilephonestoaccessInternetdirectlytoenjoy
various application services such as the news browsing, stock
query,emailsending/receiving,onlinegamesandchattingthrough
theWAPbrowseronthemobilephones.
ADMS:AutomaticDataMasterServer.
SIM:TheSubscriberIdentityModule(SIM)isalso knownasthe
Intelligent Card (IC) or the user identification card. The GSM
digitalmobilephonescanonlybeusedafterinstalledwiththeSIM

card.TheSIMcardiscommonlyreferredtoasthetelephonecard.
The SIM card stores the information of mobile users and
encryptedkeyonaportablememorychipfortheGSMnetworkto
identifyusersandencryptvoiceinformationinaconversation.

2.GPRSUseDescription
2.1InsertaSIMCard
2.2SetGPRSConnectionParameters
You need to set the GPRS connection parameters for the initial
useorthereplacementofaGPRScapableSIMcard.
When used for the dialup network, ensure the FRT stays within
theGPRSsignalcoverageareaandunderstandtheMODEMtype,
APNandaccessnumber.Thefollowingareinstructionstosetthe
connectionparameterofFRTswiththeblackandwhiteLCDsas
wellas3inch,3.5inchand8inchcolorLCDs.
1. Set connection parameters for the FRTs with
blackandwhiteLCDs.
SetconnectionparametersbyusingthedeliveryattachedGPRS
Toolprograminthefollowingsteps:
1) Run the program to display the following
interface:

Part 1: Set parameters for the communication between the
FRTandcomputer.
Part2:Settheconnectionparameters.
2) Setcommunicationparameters.
TheFRTcancommunicatewiththecomputerthroughthe
TCP/IP or RS232. Connect the FRT with the computer
throughtheTCP/IPorRS232.
Check the IP address, port, network access speed and
connectionpassword,andinputtheinformationintopart1of
GPRSTool.
Note: All the communication information filled in the GPRS Tool
must be consistent with relatedinformation onthe FRT to avoid
affectingthecommunicationbetweentheFRTandcomputer.

ModemType: This parameter is used to select the MODEM type
basedontheSIMtype.
Activate: This parameter is used to set whether to activate the
automaticdialfunction.
Frequency:Selectanappropriatefrequencybasedontheservice
providedbythecarrier.
APN:ThisparameterisusedtoidentitytheGPRS/CDMAservice
types.
User name and password: This parameter is used to verify
whethertheuserisgrantedaccesstotheGPRSnetwork.
Access number: This parameter refers to the access number of
theGPRSserver.
RedialTimeInterval:Thisparameterisusedtoset atimeinterval
forautomaticredialuponnetworkdisconnection.
RedialCount: This parameter is used to set the redial attempts
uponnetworkdisconnection.
Pressortolocatethecursorinanentryboxorbutton,and
thenselecttheitemtosetbypressing or ,orinputavalue
directly.Afterfinishingsettings,youcanpress< >or<OK>to
save your settings and return to the previous interface, or press
<ESC> to cancel your settings and return to the previous
interface.
2.3ActivateGPRS
TheFRTsupportsbothautomaticandmanualactivationofGPRS.

1. AutomaticactivationofGPRS
FRTswithcolorLCDsdeterminewhethertoautomaticallyactivate
the GPRS during start based on parameter settings. FRTs with
blackandwhite LCDs automatically activate the GRPS upon
startup each time and the activation process takes about 30
seconds.

Meaningsoftheiconsdisplayedonthetopleftcornerortopright
corneroftheaboveinterfaces:
: Indicates the GPRS signal strength. Five bars represent full signal
strength.Themorebarsyouhave,thestrongerthesignalyougettheless
barsyouhave,theweakerthesignalyouget.Theiconaboveindicatesthe
fullsignalstrength.
Note:IftheiconaboveisnotdisplayeduponFRTstartup,itispossible
thattheGPRSnetworksignalisweakortheSIMcardisfaulty.Forthe
specificcauseandhandling method,see4FAQ.

upon activation failure. You can judge the possible cause by
checkingthemeaningofthecorrespondingerrorcode.

There are many factors that may lead to the GPRS activation
failure, for example, weak network signal (less than two bars),
insufficient SIM card balance, carriers failure to support GPRS
and access point error. If the activation success icon is not
displayedontheFRTscapableofautomaticGPRSactivation,the
GPRS activation fails. In that case, you can check whether it is
causedbyanyoftheabovefactorsandthenmanuallyactivatethe
GPRS.

4.FAQ
whyisthe iconnotdisplayedonthescreen?
Answer:TheSIMcardisnotGPRScapable,ortheSIMcard
balanceisinsufficient.Generally theGPRSisonly available
twotothreehoursafteryourechargeyourSIMcard.
2. Question: Why is the icon (that is, the GPRS is
connected but the Web Server is not connected)
displayed?
Answer: Generally this error occurs due to the incorrect
configuration of the Web Server IP address and port No.
Please check whether the Web Server is available on the
computer where Internet access is available. Enter
http://[IP]:[PortNo.]intheaddressbarofthebrowsertocheck
whether the Web Server is available. If you fail to open the
web page on the computer, check whether the Web Server
runsproperly.
If the settings of theWeb Server are proper, checkwhether
theFRThasaserialnumberorwhethertheFRTisenrolled
ontheserver(thatis,whethertheFRTisallowedtoaccess
theWEBserver).
3. Question: Why is the icon not displayed on the
screenupontheFRTstartup?
Answer: Check the Modem model, mobile carrier and
registrationstatusbyqueryingtheGPRSinformation.Ifthere
