Definition of terms

Water Lily.

Any of various aquatic plants (especially generaNymphaea and Nuphar of the

family Nymphaeaceae, the water-lily family) with floating leaves and usually showy
flowers; broadly : an aquatic plant (such as water hyacinth) with showy flowers.

An ornamental aquatic plant with large round floating leaves and large,
typically cup-shaped, floating flowers.

In this study, Water Lily will be used as the main component in formulating an
antibacterial liquid soap.

Antibacterial.

Anything that destroys bacteria or suppresses their growth or their ability to reproduce. Heat,
chemicals such as chlorine, and antibiotic drugs all have antibacterial properties. Many antibacterial products
for cleaning and hand washing are sold today. Such products do not reduce the risk for symptoms of viral
infectious diseases in otherwise healthy persons. This does not preclude the potential contribution of
antibacterial products to reducing symptoms of bacterial diseases in the home.

In this study, antibacterial will be the desired action of the formulated liquid soap
to be evaluated.

Liquid Soap.

Commonly consist of a solution of a cold made potash soap of a vegetable oil, frequently
coconut oil in soft or distilled water. They vary in solids content from about 10 % to 30% percent
or more in almost invariably contain the glycerol which is normal to a cold process soap.
(Smither, Trevithick etc.1937 )

In this study, liquid soap will be the desired product to formulate.

Nymphaea.
Any of the plants, known as water lilies, that are members of the genus Nymphaea

In this study, Nymphaea will be the genus of Nymphaea lotus.

Agar well diffusion method.

The disk diffusion agar method tests the effectiveness of antibiotics on a

specific microorganism. An agar plate is first spread with bacteria, then paper disks of
antibiotics are added. ... This method is used to determine the best antibiotic to use
against a new or drug-resistant pathogen.

In this study, Agar well diffusion method will be used to evaluate the antibacterial activity
of formulated liquid soap.

Staphylococcus aureus.

Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive, round-shaped bacterium that is a

member of the Firmicutes, and is frequently found in the nose, respiratory tract, and on
the skin. It is often positive for catalase and nitrate reduction and is a facultative
anaerobe that can grow without the need for oxygen.

In this study, S. aureus will be used as the bacteria.

Escherichia coli.

Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria normally live in the intestines of healthy
people and animals. Most varieties of E. coli are harmless or cause relatively brief
diarrhea. But a few particularly nasty strains, such as E. coli O157:H7, can cause
severe abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea and vomiting.

In this study, E. coli will be used as the bacteria.

Extraction

Extraction involves the separation of medicinally active portions of animal or

plant tissues from the inactive components through the use of selective solvents

In this study, extraction will be used to extract the fresh leaves of Water Lily (Nymphaea
lotus).

Rotary Evaporation.

A rotary evaporator (or rotavap/rotovap) is a device used in chemical

laboratories for the efficient and gentle removal of solvents from samples by
evaporation.

In this study, Rotary evaporation will be used to separate the extract from the solvent
which is ethanol.

Filtration.

It may be define as a process of separation of solids from a fluid by passing the

same through a porous medium that retains the solids but allows the fluid to pass
through. ... Process of filtration Pores of filter medium are smaller than size of particles
to be separate. (Sep 13, 2014)

In this study, filtration will be used the filter the extract.

Nymphaeaceae.

A family of aquatic plants (order Ranales) having long-stalked often peltate

leaves, large flowers with 3 to 5 sepals and numerous petals and stamens, and
polycarpellary indehiscent fruit and comprising the water lilies see nelumbo nuphar
nymphaea victoria.

In this study, Nymphaeaceae will be the family of Nymphaea lotus
