1. Scopr, This JapaneseIndustrial Standard specifiesthe welded steel pipe
pitur G"i*ft". referred to as "piles"),used in the fbundation of structures such
as civil ingineering works anil architecture.

Remarks 1. The piles for landslide deierment are included'

Classihcation and symbols- The piles shall be classified in two and their

5. I\4echanicalproperties The blank pipes shall be tested in accordancewith


9.2 and 9.3 and their tensiie strength, yield point or proof stress,elongation,
tensile strength of welds and flatness shall conform to Table 3. As regards
flatness, the walls of blank pipes shall be free from flaws or cracks.

(1) Welding materials used for the shop circumferential weld to connectblanli
pipes into a single pipe and for rnounting the accessoriesshall har.e a
tensile strength not less than that of the materials for the blank pipes and
accessories and meet the requirements of one of the following standards.

(2) The materials used for accessoriesshall be equal or superior to those of SS


400 in JIS G 3101.

7. Shapes,dimensions,mass ary! tolerances

7.1 ShapeS The shapesofthe piles shall be as follows:

(1) The shapesof both ends of pile and site circumferential weld shall be as
shown in Fig. 2. When the pipes different in thickness are to be connected,
they shall be prelirninarily worked at shop as shown in Fig. 3, as a rule. If
especiallyrequired, reinforcementor work may be determined by agreement
' betweenthe parties
concernedwith deliverv.

Notes (') The length of cutting part inside the pipe shall be
larger than 4(rr - tz). When tr - tz is not more than 2
mm, or when tl - 12is not more than B Inm in the case
of both-sidewelding of the shop circumferential weld,
the cutting is not required_
(t) The length of blank pipe in the case of shop circurnfer-
ential weld shall be not less than 2 m as a rule.

(2) Unless otherwise specified,the shapes and dimensionsof the backing ring
used for the backing strip of the site circumferential weld of pile and lhe
dimensionsof stopper attached to the lower pile shall be as jown in Fis.

following formula assuming 1 cm3 of steel to be 7.85 g
and then it is rounded off to three signihcant figures
(four significant frgures for 1000 kg/m or more) in
accordancewith JIS Z 8401.

8. Appearance The single pipe shall be free from defects harmful to use'

9. Test

9.1 Analysis test The analysis test shall be as follows:

(1) The generalitems and sampling method of the analysis test shall be as
specifiedin 3. (Chemical composition)of JIS G 0303'

9,2 Tensiletest

9.2.I Test piece The test pieceshall be as follows: 9

(1) The test piece for the tensile iest shall be No. 5 test piece specifiedin JIS
Z 22OI and,the sampling method shall be either one of the following: I
(a) Cut the test piece,for the pipe other than the one formed by expand- b
ing, from the pipe itselfor from steel plates, sheetsor strips used for

(b) Cut the tesl piece,for the pipe formed by expanding, from the pipe F
itself.
(2) Weld tensile test piece of arc welded steel pipe shall be No. 1 test piece I
specified in JIS Z 3121, and shall be cut from the specimen taken from the n
end part welded under the same conditions as the pipe or pipe body.

9.2.2 Test method The test method shall be in accordancewith JIS Z 2241.

9.2.3 Number of test pieces The method of sampling specimensand the


number of testlieces i},-all be as specifiedin Table ?.
