Stoichiometry Worksheet 6 Limiting Reactant

Learning Target Students will determine the limiting reactant of a chemical reaction.
Students will determine the amount/mass of the excess reactant that remains following a
chemical reaction.
Textbook Section 9.3
Directions: Use dimensional analysis to solve each of the following questions. Every number must have a
unit and a chemical formula. Be sure to leave the correct number of significant figures in your
answer.
1. Consider this equation: ____Ca(NO3)2(aq) + ____NaOH (aq) ____ Ca(OH)2(s) + _____NaNO3(aq)
a. If 30.0 grams of calcium nitrate reacts with 25.0 grams of sodium hydroxide, what mass of solid
calcium hydroxide will be produced? Determine the limiting reactant and the excess reactant for
this reaction.

b. How many grams of the excess reactant will remain after the reaction is complete?

2. Calcium carbonate reacts with iron(III) phosphate to produce calcium phosphate and iron(III) carbonate.
a. Write the balanced equation for the reaction.

b. If 55.0 grams of calcium carbonate reacts with 45.0 grams of iron (III) phosphate, what mass of
calcium phosphate will be produced? Determine the limiting reactant and the excess reactant.

3. When aqueous lead (II) nitrate reacts with aqueous sodium chloride, solid lead (II) chloride and aqueous
sodium nitrate are formed.
a. Write the balanced equation for the reaction given above.
