WHIN SAFETY GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURE

1. OBJECTIVE:

The objective of these procedures is to ensure the safety, health and well-being of employees at work place.

WaterHealth India Private Limited (WHIN) is committed to provide a safe working environment to ensure
the prevention of damage, injury or loss to employees, materials, equipment and property.

For this purpose:

1.1 WHIN adheres to the Safety Management System in accordance with applicable safety regulations as
specified by Indian Labor legislations.

1.2 WHIN management promotes employee safety culture based on incident reporting, fair judgments,
flexibility and use of best practices.

1.3 WHIN management is responsible for implementing this statement and for the overall safety
performance across organization.

2. APPLICABILITY

To comply with relevant legislation, codes and guidelines, emergency procedures are prepared and
distributed, emergency warning systems are installed in the head office building and an Emergency Control
Drill is organized by Emergency Control Team (ECT) and every employee including business associates are
trained.

3.1 Safety Measures are ensured for:

3.1.1 Assembly, Laboratory and Plant Staffs: The assembly line, Lab and plant staffs are provided
with required safety tools like Helmet, Gloves and Boots etc. to perform their day to day task
safely.

3.1.2 WHC Business Associate: Business associates are trained on safety measures and procedure.
They are also trained on Dos and Donts during an emergency. They are also provided with
personal protection equipment (PPE) which includes gloves, goggles and ladders to perform
their activities safely.

3.1.3 Corporate Employees: Relevant safety signage is made available at required locations in the
office premises. First Aid kit is made available for minor injuries such as cut, burns etc. A detailed
safety procedure is available in case of any mishap. A comprehensive fire safety process is also
implemented.

3.1.4 All instances where safety of an employee (on rolls/contractual) was compromised during
performance of her/his job must be reported to the personnel in HR responsible for
maintenance of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) following the laid down procedure.
3. PROCEDURE:

4.1 Emergency Plan

4.1.1 Each workplace at WHIN is required to have fully implemented emergency procedures. The
procedures that follow are designed to assist in the implementation of emergency procedures
for workplaces at WHIN. An Emergency Control Team is formed to execute the emergency plan.

Emergency Control Team (ECT)

4.1.2 The role of the Emergency Control Team (ECT) is to ensure the safety of the employees in any
emergency. During emergencies, instructions from ECT personnel (that is, group of trained
employees and Fire and Emergency Services personnel) overrule the normal management
structure.

4.2 Emergency evacuation

4.2.1 During an emergency follow the instructions of the Emergency Control Team and Fire and
safety service personnel.
4.2.2 On hearing the evacuation alarm/ shouts, immediately prepare to leave the office premise
secure confidential materials and valuables, collect personal belongings, shut down plant and
lab, switch off computers, electrical appliances, equipment and machinery.
4.2.3 If the evacuation alarm sounds, or if instructed to do so by an Emergency Control Team, leave
the building by the nearest and safest exit route. All doors should be closed (but not locked) on
leaving.
4.2.4 If possible take hand held personal belongings (such as laptop bags) with you when you leave.
4.2.5 Do not return to collect belongings.
4.2.6 Assist any person with a disability to leave the building. Do not attempt to carry people down
stairs.
4.2.7 Walk quickly and calmly to the designated assembly area for your building or as advised by Fire
and Emergency Services personnel.

4.3 Fire/smoke

4.3.1 Raise the alarm


4.3.2 If safe to do so ensure the immediate safety of anyone within the vicinity of the fire.
4.3.3 Raise the alarm if not already sounding, using a break glass alarm panel or by shouting Fire,
Fire, Fire if a panel is not available. The alarm system automatically notifies the Fire and
Emergency Services and Security (who then notifies other emergency personnel).
4.3.4 Fire Station (call on 101/23449218). Give your name, building, door number, type and extent of
the fire/smoke and inform to Emergency Control Team if safe to do so.
4.3.5 Evacuate the immediate area.
4.3.6 Firefighting- If safe to do so and if trained in the use of fire-fighting equipments attempt to
extinguish the fire.
4.3.7 Choose the correct fire extinguisher. Do not use water or foam on an electrical fire.
4.3.8 Evacuate the building as instructed to do so by ECT.
4.3.9 Walk quickly and calmly to the assembly area.
4.3.10 Close doors and windows as you exit - do not lock doors. Leave lights on.
4.3.11 Remain in the assembly area in groups until instructed to leave by ECT or Fire and Emergency
Services personnel.
4.3.12 Do not re-enter the building until informed that it is safe to do so by the ECT or Fire and
Emergency Services personnel.

4.4 Personal injury

4.4.1 Minor Injury


4.4.1.1 Contact the Reception/ Admin department for First Aid available within the building.
4.4.1.2 Send the injured person to a nearest Medical Centre if necessary (business hours only).
4.4.1.3 Inform supervisor.
4.4.1.4 Complete a confidential incident /injury report form.

4.4.2 Major injury


4.4.2.1 Call for assistance to nearest Medical Center for Ambulance Services.
4.4.2.2 Provide all the required information
4.4.2.3 Name
4.4.2.4 Location (building, level, room number)
4.4.2.5 Nature and type of injury
4.4.2.6 State of consciousness of the injured person(s)
4.4.2.7 Age and gender of the injured person(s)
4.4.2.8 If possible, the name of the injured person(s)
4.4.2.9 Any relevant information breathing/not breathing, chest pains, bleeding etc.
4.4.2.10 Ensure the area is clear for emergency personnel.
4.4.2.11 Inform your supervisor.
4.4.2.12 Complete a confidential incident/injury report form.
4.4.2.13 Familiarize yourself with the First Aid Kit (FAT) available in the office. This information
is also available with Emergency Control Team.
4.5 Assault

4.5.1 Provide details of the assault as soon as possible.


4.5.2 Do not wash, shower, change clothes or clean up in any way until obtaining medical assistance
and talking to the Police. You could destroy vital evidence.
4.5.3 Do not take tranquilizers or other drugs as you will have to give a clear account of what has
happened. Try to remember everything you can about your attacker.
4.5.4 Remember, you are the victim. You have nothing to feel guilty or ashamed about. Police
Officers are aware that a person who has been assaulted is likely to be suffering from emotional
shock. They will do all they can to make things easy, as possible, for you.

4.6 Personal threat

4.6.1 Violent / threatening person


4.6.1.1 If safe to do so, note and report such persons to your Supervisor or HR and
Administration Department
4.6.1.2 If confronted, obey instructions if safe to do so:
4.6.1.3 Do not argue or provoke the person.
4.6.1.4 Do not attempt to physically subdue the person.
4.6.1.5 Back away and alert others to move away also.
4.6.1.6 Make it easy for the person to leave the building/area.
4.6.1.7 If the person appears psychotic (unusual behavior, saying odd things)
4.6.1.8 Try and create a calm, non-threatening atmosphere. Reduce distractions; turn off noisy
equipment and computer monitors.
4.6.1.9 Talk slowly, quietly, firmly and simply.
4.6.1.10 Avoid direct eye contact, do not get too close.
4.6.1.11 If you can get the person to calm down, try and get them to sit down with you.
4.6.1.12 Do not try to reason with acute psychosis. They may be acting this way because hallucinations
and voices that they are hearing are very real to them.
4.6.1.13 Express empathy for the persons emotional distress, but do not pretend that the delusions or
voices are real for you.
4.6.1.14 Comply with reasonable requests.
4.6.1.15 Record information for Police.
4.6.1.16 Be prepared to evacuate or secure the building/area await further instructions from Security.

4.6.2 Observe carefully:


4.6.2.1 Any articles touched by the person.
4.6.2.2 Physical details and attire.
4.6.2.3 Points which may aid description (including mannerisms).
4.6.2.4 Direction that the person took when they left the area.
4.6.2.5 Provide details of the incident as soon as possible, advice of any unusual behavior seek advice
on the next action.

It is the responsibility of the Emergency Control Team to maintain control over employees during an emergency
until released by the fire and safety personnel.
