The Advanced Part Design course is about creating solid based mechnanical design
solutions. Students will learn more advanced techniques for creating feature-based
solids, as well as surface-based features, transformations, model evaluations, boolean
operations, and feature management. Upon completion of this course, students be
ready to start using advanced modeling techniques in your designs.

The Advanced Assembly Design course is creating product and visualizing its functionality.
Students`ll learn how to create assemblies wisely and manage them using essential tools
in CATIA V5. Topics include assembly information, operations, tools, management,
catalogs, analysis, parameters, formulas, and interpart links. Upon completion of this
course students`ll be ready to start building complex assemblies.

This Advanced Surface Design course teaches students, how to create and analyze
complex surfaces using the CATIA V5 Generative Shape Design workbench.
(For some licenses, many of these commands will be found in the Wireframe and
Surfacing Design workbench instead.) Students will learn valuable tools to analyze
surface models to verify their quality. Key topics include: connect checker, connect curve,
draft analysis, surfacic curvature analysis, porcupine analysis, healing elements,
sweep (explicit, line, circle, conic, adaptive), blend surfaces, and powercopies.

Learn how to put your assemblies in motion with our DMU Kinematics course.
The DMU Kinematics workbench lets you add kinematic mechanisms to your assemblies.
Use these mechanisms to simulate your assembly's motion. You can then use the
simulation to evaluate your design. This course gives you the tools you need to get
your assembly designs moving.

The Fundamentals of Vehicle Design and Packaging course is intended to be a guide for
individuals through the advanced concept package development process. The main
objective of the advanced concept is to develop form, proportion, and architecture that
pushes beyond current boundaries. This course will cover functions and segments of
automotive design, package ideation, size & proportion, occupant packaging, interiors &
cargo, powertrains, wheels & tires, suspension & chassis, and bodies.
AUTOMOTIVE CHASSIS DESIGN
This course is intended to allow you the opportunity to explore engine design
fundamentals and learn what you can do to help during the machining process.
You will also learn about exhaust, suspension, steering, and frame systems.
Using real-world design problems presented by automotive manufacturers for
case workers, you can put into practice your newfound knowledge.

AUTOMOTIVE STRUCTURES (BIW)

The course explains how to create automotive structural parts within the body
panels and assembly environment. We emphasize modeling parts to fit within
a limited space using existing geometry as the boundaries, and to design the
parts to accommodate subsystems.
PROJECTS DONE DURING THE COURSE WORK

FUNDAMENTAL OF VEHICLE DESIGN & PACKAGING

The objective of coursework is to create different concepts based on functional objectives and drive the
architecture of vehicle forword. The concept deing driven by design (emotion) or package ( logic ).
Ideally both are developed harmoniously to result in pure and rational product. Students have understood
objectives of different vehicles and using CATIA tools they have the concept of Class A surface.
They have experimented different configrations in terms of powertrain layout, suspension & steering
configuration, body structure & interiors. Depending on voulme occupied by the individual packages the
concept have been generated. We encourage students come up with new ideas were CATIA help to
shorten their design development cycles. Starting from anatomy of passegener car package to package
ideation, sizing & proportion, benchmarking, occupant packaging, inetrior & cargo, powertrain packaging
wheels & tyres, suspension & chassis, body & exterior features and creating a package logic drawing is
what students have imparted.
FOCUSSING ON OCCUPANT PACKAGING

Erogonimic study reveals lot of data regarding drivers comfort. Students have understood the quantified
requirements of comfort by SAEJ1100 index. Using H-point reference they have design the manikin of 95
percentile male by using Human Builder Analysis in CATIA. Analyzing upward vision angle & downward
vision angle, effective head room, 95th percentile eye ellipse, torso line (back angle), thigh center line.
Setting up the enviroement by above data, students have experiment different vehicle profile, belt line, day
light opening profile. Using Generative Shape Design they have create a form. The focus is mainly on
to understanding advanced product design process during evolution of a vehicle and to make it simpler
we have used 3D expeirence platform during brainstorming sessions. Because withoutquestion, the critical
element in every vehcile package are occupants. If you get occupants positions and postures wrong, the
entire architecture need to be redesigned.
PROJECTS DONE IN AUTOMOTIVE CHASSIS DESIGN

By studying the modeling technique that produce a frame rail solid model. Students have developed this
frame rail as a hydroformed part. Creating charaterstic shape that form the rough shape & then the detail
features that complete the model. Considering and adding clearance for suspension component attachement
and structural support formation. Understanding the manfacturing of sheet metal components, creating
design methods for sheet metal (DFM),develop correct metal formation in complex areas. Digital Mock up
analysis in CATIA has been done by defining different joint for undertanding of suspension system under
under loading. Students have capability to design components for specific manufacturing process. The
design methodolgy under scaned revels the die prior to shell operation and resulting component after
stamping. Structural supports like body mount brackets , suspension mounts & hangers have been
assembled. This components are welded to frame and design to relative location of the frame. This means
it should follow the characterstic shape of the frame for correct installation & support.

MODEL CREATION METHODS

CATIA software is common in the product design industry because of the speed,
accuracy, versatility, and engineering they contribute to the manufacturing of a
product. Depending on the CAD system of company uses dictates the particular
methods used in modeling a part. Each system has its own unique modeling tools
but most of them follow a common standard, which is they create solid bodies and
surfaces. Some companies restrict you to use proven modeling methods or methods
that support other activities but it always comes down to shape. This method
reviews some of the primary methods used for designing a solid model for BIW.

FRONT PILLAR HINGE DEVELOPMENT FOR ROUGH SHAPE

Create a rough shape envelope for a front hinge pillar. You will use different
techniques to create the rough shape from existing geometry. Creating the front
hinge pillar involves five different tasks: initial build, adding depressions, adding
beads, adding flanges, and the final shaping. This project shows how to build a
stamped sheet metal part starting with the initial chunky solid all the way to the
finished part.

COMPLEX DEPRESSIONS ON CONTOUR SURFACE

This project begins with creation main body block shape. Then using existing
geometry to create depressions utilizing surface creation multibodeis, Boolean
operations and splits. By using Advanced replication tools like Duplicate
geometric set we create different contours.

FLANGE CREATION
The objective of this project is to create flange to adjoining and stiffening to an
existing model. Creating bodies to flange and removing a cut-out.Carrying out
design changes for downstream users.

SHAPING OF PART - CREATING REINFORCEMNT

To shape a reinforcement while working in context of assembly. This project
reveals a modeling technique where surfaces that used to shape a part that has
depression formations and metal to bend it. During manufacturing the part is
blanked and then formed causing metal twist to occur in particular areas.
This is an easy way for these particular form of formations.
PROJECTS DONE IN AUTOMOTIVE INTERIOR & EXTERIOR DESIGN

A - B Surfacing

Plastic product design involves best surfacing practices. The projects done by our students focussing on
offsetting of Class A surface to Class B and blending it with Class C surface which makes a closed loop.
This will be coverted to solid and through boolean operations we have achieved different engineering
features. The challeging part is generating surface which are tangentially continous. Student have learned
proper creation of tree struture for downstream users. Understanding injection molding process and apply
DFMA principles to design methodology.

MAIN DOOR TRIM PROJECT

Door trim project is application of PDD understanding and implementation in real time. From defining tooling
direction, developing class B according master section proposed and creating assemble elements like
snap fits, ribs, dog house, heat stakes, locators, different clips. In context of assembly with enviroment data
shape is formed and engineering features are applied. To ensure manufacturing and easy ejection from
die cavity draft analysis is done. Other analysis like surface curvature analysis , porcupine analysis are done
to ensure curvature smoothness. Power copy has been used for developing locators, snap fits and other
assemble elements
