structural analysis using MSC Patran/Nastran/Hypermesh.

• Good knowledge in Hand calculation of Fasteners (Classical Engg Method) for

Aircraft components.
• Meshing of various BIW and Aircraft (Airbus) components as per the quality using
Hypermesh, Ansa
• Preparation of Stress documentation.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
● Working as an Assistant Analysis Engineer in CADES Digitech Pvt. Ltd.,
Bangalore since April 2007 to till date

Projects Accomplished:
Project Title:
(1)Stress check & Reserve Factor estimation for Fastener in various joint & Global local Analysis
to optimize the design (Fasteners Calculation)
Client: Agusta Westland Helicopter, UK
Project Specific Skills: MSC Patran, MathCAD, MS Office, Westland S214 programme
Role: Stress analysis Engineer.
Description: The objective of this project was to calculate the forces applied on the
fasteners at the joints and calculate the RF( Reserve factor)
The process involved Finite element selection at the joint region from the coarse mesh FE
model, load extraction for the applicable load cases using customized program S214.
Fasteners load and RF calculated using MS Excel and MathCAD and documented

(2) Finite Element Model (FEM) of Airbus A400M wing box Ribs
Client: Airbus UK
Project Specific Skills: Hypermesh
Material: Aluminum.
Role: Stress analysis Engineer.
Description: The project involved the Finite Element Model (FEM) preparation of wing
box ribs of A400M airbus. The data is given in the form of CATIA part model. The data
is converted to IGES format in CATIA and FEM model is prepared to the required
specification. Stiffener part is meshed to the mid plane and web portion is meshed to the
bottom plane and different thickness is given to the specified regions.
After Meshing
• Export the meshing rib in the form of .inp extension file.

• Import the model in to ABACUS to check the mesh.

(3) BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF TAIL(HT & VT ) FOR SARAS AIRCRAFT

Client: NAL Bangalore

Material: AL 2024-T351
Project Specific Skills: Nastran/Patran, MS Office.
Role: Stress analysis Engineer.
Description: This analysis is done for Skin panel of both Horizontal and Vertical Tail
portion of the Saras Aircraft. Reserve factor is calculated for these panels to check the
buckling strength. For the skin, compressive and shear buckling strength is checked and
for stringers a bending check is carried out. Entire procedure is followed from ‘Aircraft
stressing and sizing’ by Michael C Y Niu. From the Patran Database file, free body loads
are obtained and the critical load is determined. Strength check is carried out only for the
critical load so that entire analysis will be on the conservative side.

(4) Blower wheel containment analysis

Client: HAL, Bangalore

Project Specific Skills: Hyper mesh version 7 tool, LS DYNA tool version 971 (Explicit
solver)
Material: For Blower – 2618 Al. Alloy, Casing – 357 Al. Alloy, & Containment shield –
AISI 301 Steel
Role: Stress analysis Engineer.
Description: To carry out blower wheel containment analysis with oil cooling system (OCS)
casing of Shakti engine to avoid any blower fragment coming out from the casing in case of
blower burst. It is required to perform the Non-linear analysis to study the damage of the blower
wheel containment shield from the blower fragment impacting at a given velocity. Based on the
CAD model in IGES format provided by the HAL is used to generate FE model. All the
material properties, loads and boundary conditions are as per the inputs and the suggestions
provided by HAL. The geometric setup for the FE analysis consists of the following
components Blower wheel, Casing, Containment shield, Bush. The blower wheel will be
modeled as 3 separate pieces at 120 degree sector. The blower wheel is rotating with bush at
designed over speed of 27315 rpm and breaks in to three pieces after some time interval. The
containment shield is placed between blower casing and blower wheel to prevent the damage of
blower casing from the blower wheel. One side of blower casing is bolted to the gear box with
five bolts and other side is attached to the heat exchanger. The blower casing and containment
shield are connected together by rivets at 5 locations. The casing, blower wheel and bush are
modeled with solid elements, while the containment shield having 0.8 mm thickness is modeled
with shell elements. Six different contact types are defined for the analysis. The main output of
the analysis Stress/Strains in the blower wheel and casing, Displacements and deformed shapes
of blower wheel and casing, Energy plots of blower wheel, casing and containment shield.

5) FE MODELING OF AUTOMOTIVE COMPONENTS

Description: Some of the BIW components like Body side outer, Door sheet metal
panels, Bumper parts such as Bumper skin, bumper grill, Interiors like Instrument
panel ,dash panel, IP trims etc.,
INPUT DATA: IGS. The project involves, Geometric cleaning of the component
Mid surface extraction. Surface meshing -using shell elements. i.e., FE Modeling of the
component as per the customer requirement.
Checking and clearing the failing elements in Time Step and in quality parameters
specified by client.
Assigning Shell Elements Property and Material Property.( PID & MID)

TOOL USED: ANSA 12.0.3

(6) Finite Element meshing of body of automotive components.

FE modeling is done as per the meshing qualities for Crash and Durability analysis.

FE shell modeling of BIW components like Car Door Panels, Center floor panel, rear floor panel,
Roof, dash board and Truck _bed, bumper etc.
TOOL USED: Hypermesh 7.0

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:
(1)
“FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF GAS TURBINE COMPONENTS”
Brief Overview of Project:
A gas turbine is a rotary machine which is mainly used in aircraft and industrial power
generation. In this project a FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS is conducted on two gas
turbine components, namely: the exhaust duct and the turbine rotor. In a gas turbine
large temperature changes result in non uniform temperature distribution giving rise to
thermal stresses and thermo-mechanical fatigue. In the first case the temperature
distribution and the stresses were obtained by conducting a steady state structural and
thermal analysis on the exhaust duct component.
In the second case topological optimization was carried out on a turbine rotor in order
to obtain the optimum locations of the geometric discontinuities like the purge holes,
cooling holes and the bolt holes for minimum stress distribution. The rotor component
was modeled and analyzed using the Ansys FEA tool.

(2) “Design and Simulation of the Common Rail Injection System” using AMESim
4.3 tool
The Common rail is the state of the art fuel injection system designed to comply with the
increasing demand for specific power, reduced fuel consumption, as well as lower noise
& exhaust gas emissions. In the project the different component of the system (pump,
pressure regulator, injector, & rail) modeled using AMESim Hydraulic component
design with control library. In other part i.e. in Simulation part we did the linear
analysis (time response) like flow rate of the fuel injected into combustion chamber &
displacement of the nozzle.

Academic project:

(1) Analysis and optimization of an IC-Engine piston using CatiaV5 (for modeling)
and ANSYS (for analysis).
Analysis and optimization of an IC-Engine piston is a project taken by us with an
aim to study the stress distribution in the piston and also optimize the design. In
this project the analysis of Mechanical and Thermal stresses acting on the Piston is
carried out and in turn this defines the problem and further optimized solution is
obtained using ANSYS (for analysis) and CatiaV5 (for modeling)
