The Lion and the Mouse
Once when a Lion was asleep a little Mouse began
running up and down upon him; this soon wakened
the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and
opened his big jaws to swallow him.
"Pardon, King!," cried the little Mouse. "Forgive me
this time, I shall never forget it. Who knows but what I esta vez. Quin sabe qu podra hacer por ti uno de

The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the Mouse
being able to help him, that he lifted up his paw and
let him go.
Some time after the Lion was caught by some hunters
who tied him to a tree. Just then the little Mouse
happened to pass by, and seeing the sad plight in
which the Lion was, went up to him and soon gnawed
away the ropes that bound the King of the Beasts.
"Was I not right?", said the little Mouse.
MORAL
If you do something nice for someone,
they will do something nice for you. Little
friends may prove great friends.
El Len y el Ratn
Una vez mientras un Len dorma tranquilamente un
Ratn empez a corretear encima de su cuerpo lo cual
despert el len que le puso encima su enorme pata y
abri sus grandes fauces para devorarlo.
"Disculpa, Rey!", grit el pequeo Ratn. "Perdname
estos das?"
Al Len le produjo tanta risa la idea de que el Ratn fuera
capaz de ayudarlo que levant la pata y lo dej marchar.
Pocos das despus el Len fue atrapado por unos
cazadores que lo ataron a un rbol. Justo en esos
momentos pasaba por all el pequeo Ratn y al escuchar
los lamentos del Len, corri al lugar y roy las cuerdas
que apresaban al Rey de los Animales.
"No tena yo razn?", dijo el pequeo Ratn.
MORALEJA
Nunca despreciemos las promesas de los
pequeos honestos pues, llegado el
momento, las cumplirn.

The Ant and the Dove
One hot day, an Ant was searching for some
water to drink. After walking around for some
time, she came to a spring.
To reach the spring, she had to climb up a
blade of grass. While making her way up, she
slipped and fell into the water.
A Dove sitting on a tree overhanging the water
plucked a leaf and let it fall into the stream
close to her. The Ant climbed onto it and
floated in safety to the bank.
Just at that time, a hunter nearby was throwing
out his net towards the Dove, hoping to trap it.
Guessing what he was about to do, the Ant
quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling the pain,
the hunter dropped his net, and then the Dove
was quick to fly away to safety.
MORAL
One good turn deserves another. If you
do something nice for someone, they
will do something nice for you.
La Hormiga y la Paloma
Un da muy caluroso, una Hormiga buscaba algo
de agua para calmar su sed. Despus de dar
varias vueltas lleg hasta un manantial.
Para llegar hasta el manantial debi trepar una
larga hoja de pasto. Mientras trepaba resbal y
cay al agua.
Una Paloma que se encontraba sobre un rbol
desprendi una hoja y se la arroj a la corriente.
La Hormiga subi a la hoja y as flot a salvo
hasta la orilla.
Mientras tanto un cazador de la zona colocaba
su red cerca de la Paloma, tratando de cazarla.
Imaginando lo que estaba por hacer, la Hormiga
se apur a picarlo en el taln. Al sentir el dolor, el
cazador solt la red y entonces la Paloma
aprovech para alzar vuelo y salvarse.
MORALEJA
Siempre hay que corresponder en la
mejor forma a los favores que recibimos.
Debemos ser siempre agradecidos.

The Fox and the Grapes
It was a sunny day and Fox was walking
across the fields. Soon he came to a vineyard.
As he came nearer, he could see some
bunches of juicy grapes.
The Fox looked carefully around him. He had
to make sure that he was safe from the
hunters. And he decided to steal some before
anyone came along.
He jumped upwards but he could not reach the
grapes. He jumped again as high as he could.
He still could not reach them. The grapes were
just too high for him!
He was not ready to give up. He backed off,
took some running steps and leapt into the air
towards the grapes. Again he failed to reach
them.
It was getting dark, and he was getting angry.
His legs hurt with all that running and jumping.
At last he stopped trying.
As he walked away, he said to himself, "I don't
really want those grapes. I'm sure they are too
sour to eat."
MORAL
When we cannot get what we want, we
usually pretend that it is worthless. It is
easy to despise what we cannot get.
El Zorro y las Uvas
Era un da caluroso y un Zorro caminaba pro los
campos. De pronto lleg a un viedo. Cuando se
acerc alcanz a ver algunos racimos de jugosas
uvas.
El Zorro observ atentamente a su alrededor.
Quera asegurarse que estaba a salvo de los
cazadores. Y decidi robarse algunas antes de
que alguien se acercara.
Dio un salto pero no logr alcanzar las uvas.
Nuevamente salt lo ms alto que pudo. An as
no pudo alcanzarlas. Las uvas estaban
demasiado altas para l!
No estaba dispuesto a ceder. Retrocedi, tom
cierto impulso y peg un salto en el aire hacia las
uvas. Nuevamente no logr alcanzarlas.
Estaba oscureciendo y estaba disgustado. Sus
patas le dolan con tantas corridas y saltos.
Finalmente dej de intentarlo.
Mientras se marchaba, se deca: "Realmente no
me interesan esas uvas. Estoy seguro que estn
muy cidas para comer".
MORALEJA
No descalifiquemos ni traslademos la
culpa a los dems de todo aquello que
no podemos alcanzar.

La Lecherita y su Cntaro
The Milkmaid and her Pail
A milkmaid was on her way to the market to
sell some milk from her cow. As she carried
the large pail of milk on top of her head, she
began to dream of all the things she could do
after selling the milk.
"With that money, I'll buy a hundred chicks to
rear in my backyard. When they are fully
grown. I can sell them at a good price at the
market."
As she walked on, she continued dreaming,
"Then I'll buy two young goats and rear them
on the grass close by. When they are fully
grown, I can sell them at an even better price!"
Still dreaming, she said to herself, "Soon, I'll be
able to buy another cow, and I will have more
milk to sell. Then I shall have even more
money."
With these happy thoughts, she began to skip
and jump. Suddenly she tripped and fell. The
pail broke and all the milk spilt onto the
ground.
No more dreaming now, she sat down and
cried.
MORAL
Do not count your chickens before they
are hatched.
Una lecherita iba camino al mercado a vender
algo de leche de su vaca. Mientras llevaba el
cntaro sobre su cabeza, empez a hacer planes
futuros sobre todo lo que podra hacer luego de
vender la leche.
"Con ese dinero comprar cien polluelos para
criar en el fondo. Cuando hayan crecido los
podr vender a buen precio en el mercado".
Mientras caminaba continuaba soando. "Luego
comprar dos cabras jvenes y las criar en el
prado cercano. Cuando hayan crecido, las podr
vender todava a mejor precio!".
Continuaba soando y se deca: "Pronto podr
comprar otra vaca y obtendr ms leche para
vender. Entonces tendr an ms dinero".
Con estos pensamientos empez a moverse y a
saltar hasta que tropez y se cay. El cantar se
romp y toda la leche se derram por el suelo.
Ya acabados los sueos, se sent a llorar.
MORALEJA
No te ilusiones con lo que an no has
logrado tener.

La Liebre y la Tortuga
The Hare and the Tortoise
A Tortoise one day met a Hare who made fun
of her. "My, my, you move so slowly, you will
never get far!"
The Tortoise, upset by the Hare's manner,
said, "Let's have a race and see who is faster."
The Hare laughed and said, "You must be
joking! But all right, we'll see who reaches the
other side of the hill first." Off he ran, leaving
the Tortoise far behind.
After a while, the Hare stopped to wait for the
Tortoise to come long. He waited and waited
till he felt sleepy. "I might as well take a nap,"
he thought. "Even if she catches up with me, I
can easily win the race." So he lay down under
a shady tree and closed his eyes.
The Tortoise passed the sleeping Hare, she
walked on slowly but steadily. By the time the
Hare woke up, the Tortoise was near the
finishing line. He ran as fast as he could, but
he could not catch up with the Tortoise.
MORAL
Slow and steady you can always win
the race.
Cierto da una Tortuga se encontr con una
Liebre que se burlaba de ella. "Por Dios, te
mueves tan despacio que no llegars lejos!".
La Tortuga, disgustada con los modales de la
Liebre, respondi: "Hagamos una carrera y
veamos quin es ms veloz".
La Liebre se ri y dijo: "Debes estar
bromeando!Pero de acuerdo, veamos quin llega
primero al otro lado de la colina". Sali
disparando dejando muy atrs a la Tortuga.
Al cabo de un rato, la Liebre se detuvo a esperar
que apareciese la Tortuga. Esper y esper
hasta que se qued dormida. "Bien podra
hacerme una siesta", pens. "Aunque me
alcance, podr ganar fcilmente la carrera". As
se ech a la sombra de un rbol y cerr los ojos.
La Tortuga pas a la Liebre caminando lenta
pero con firmeza. Cuando la Liebre se despert,
la Tortuga ya se encontraba cerca de la meta
final. La Liebre corri con todas sus fuerzas pero
no pudo vencer a la Tortuga.
MORALEJA
Con paciencia, constancia y firmeza
puedes alcanzar el xito.

The Wolf and the Lamb
A Lamb was grazing with a flock of sheep one
day. She soon found some sweet grass at the
edge of the field. Farther and farther she went,
away from the others.
She was enjoying herself so much that she did
not notice a Wolf coming nearer to her.
However, when it pounced on her, she was
quick to start pleading, "Please, please don't
eat me yet. My stomach is full of grass. If you
wait a while, I will taste much better."
The Wolf thought that was a good idea, so he
sat down and waited. After a while, the Lamb
said, "If you allow me to dance, the grass in my
stomach will be digested faster." Again the
Wolf agreed.
While the Lamb was dancing, she had a new
idea. She said, "Please take the bell from
around my neck. If you ring it as hard as you
can, I will be able to dance even faster."
The Wolf took the bell and rang it as hard as
he could. The shepherd heard the bell ringing
and quickly sent his dogs to find the missing
Lamb. The barking dogs frightened the Wolf
away and saved the Lamb's life.
MORAL
The gentle and weak can sometimes
be cleverer than fierce and strong.
El Lobo y el Cordero
Cierto da un Cordero se encontraba pastando
con un rebao de ovejas. Pronto encontr pasto
tierno en un extremo del campo. Y de ese modo
se fue apartando del resto.
Estaba disfrutando tanto que no advirti que un
Lobo se le acercaba. Sin embargo cuando ste
se le abalanz fue rpida para suplicarle: "Por
favor, no me comas an. Mi estmago est
repleto de pasto. Si aguardas un poco, tendr
mucho mejor sabor".
El Lobo pens que era una buena idea de modo
que se sent a esperar. Al cabo de un rato el
Cordero dijo, "Si me dejas bailar, podre digerir
ms rpido el pasto de mi estmago".
Nuevamente el Lobo estuvo de acuerdo.
Mientras el Cordero bailaba tuvo otra brillante
idea. Le dijo, "Por favor, toma la campana de mi
cuello. Si la haces sonar con todas tus fuerzas
podr bailar an ms rpido".
El Lobo tom la campana y la hizo sonar con
todas sus fuerzas. El pastor oy el sonido y
rpidamente envi a sus perros en busca del
Cordero perdido. Los ladridos ahuyentaron al
Lobo y le salvaron la vida al Cordero.
MORALEJA
Los mansos y dbiles suelen ser ms
hbiles que los feroces y fuertes.
