At least 36 killed in China bus crash state media

At least 36 people were killed and 13 injured when a bus slammed into a tunnel wall on
an expressway in northern China, state media said Friday.
The coach crashed in Shaanxi province on Thursday night after departing from
Chengdu in southwest Sichuan province en route to the central city of Luoyang, according to
Xinhua news agency, which cited local authorities.
The injured have been rushed to hospital, Xinhua said.
Sichuan province is already reeling from another tragedy as 20 people were killed and
hundreds more injured in an earthquake that struck the region on Tuesday night.
Deadly road accidents are common in China, where traffic regulations are often
flouted or go unenforced by police.
The countrys frequently overcrowded long-distance buses are particularly prone to
fatalities.

Drug suspect killed in shootout in Cagayan


A drug suspect was killed at a drug bust in Gattaran town in Cagayan province on
Thursday afternoon.
Vilmer Corpuz clashed with an undercover police officers in Barangay (village)
Naddungan at 2:20 p.m., a police report says.
The suspect arrived on a motorcycle at the pre-arranged place of transaction, alighted
and approached an unidentified police operative.
Corpuz reportedly drew his cal. 38 revolver and fired at the police officer, prompting
the lawman to fire back.
Police said Corpuz belonged to the police baseline watchlist of suspected drug
pushers in the locality.
Recovered from the crime scene was a heat-sealed plastic sachet containing an
undetermined amount of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and the
revolver.

Drugs eyed in barangay workers slay

A barangay staffer who had been helping in the implementation of the antidrug
campaign in Pasig City was killed on Wednesday.
Eduardo Sendon, 59, was watching television inside his house in Villa Sta. Ana,
Barangay San Miguel, at 5:20 p.m. when still unidentified men shot him repeatedly.
The victim, who had been working for the barangay since 1997, was helping out in the
implementation of Oplan Tokhang in the area, said barangay executive officer Miguel
Duterte.
However, a report sent to the Eastern Police District said that Sendons brother, Alberto,
had told probers that the victim was hooked on illegal drugs. An investigation is still ongoing.
2 dead in Pasay drug raid

Two drug suspects were killed while another was arrested when policemen raided an
ongoing shabu session in Pasay City on Wednesday night.

The Southern Police District identified the fatalities as Reynaldo Bermoy, 43, a resident of
F. Muoz Street, Barangay 43; and Vilmar Gaton, 24, reportedly from Taft Avenue.

A concerned citizen tipped off the police about the alleged drug session happening at
the house of Rolando Damian also on Muoz Street.

Members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit and the Intelligence Unit of Pasay police
conducted a joint operation to verify the information.

Upon arrival at the place, the policemen said they saw four people, including Bermoy
and Gaton, in the act of using shabu.

When the suspects noticed the presence of the policemen, they fired shots using .22 and
.38-caliber revolvers that were later recovered in the scene, police said.

The gunfight resulted in the death of Gaton and Bermoy.


The two other suspects were able to escape the house but Zaldy Quiban, 45, was later
arrested in a follow-up operation.
Three sachets of shabu were found in Quibans possession when arrested, police said.
