INTRODUCTION: Theaimofthisstudywastoinvestigatetheantibacterialpropertiesoforegano
(OriganumheracleoticumL.)essentialoilagainstclinicalstrainsofEscherichiacoliand
Pseudomonasaeruginosa.Theantibacterialactivityoforeganoessentialoilwasinvestigateagainst
2testedand20clinicalbacterialstrainsofEscherichiacoliand20clinicalstrainsoPseudomonas
aeruginosacomefrompatientswithdifferentclinicalconditions.
METHODS: Theagardilutionmethodwasusedformicrobialgrowthinhibitionatvarious
concentrationsofoil.Susceptibilitytestingtoantibioticswascarriedoutusingdiscdiffusionmethod.
RESULTS: Theresultsofexperimentsshowedthatthetestedoilwasactiveagainstalloftheclinical
strainsfrombothgenusofbacteria,butstrainsofEscherichiacoliweremoresensitivetotestedoil.
EssentialoilfromOriganumheracleoticumL.inhibitedthegrowthofEscherichiacoliand
Pseudomonasaeruginosaclinicalstrainswithdifferentpattersofresistance.
CONCLUSIONS: Theobtainedoutcomeswillenablefurtherinvestigationsusingoreganoessentialoil
obtainedfromOriganumheracleoticumL.asalternativeantibacterialremediesenhancinghealing
processinbacterialinfectionsandasaneffectivemeansforthepreventionofantibioticresistant
straindevelopment.
