Sumed Transferred my car from Pune to Delhi

BHPian
I transferred my car (NHC) from Pune to Delhi and changed the registration number from MH to DL.
Join Date: Sep 2005 The following was required:
Location: Gurgaon
Posts: 70 NOC from the Pune authority.. .you will have to fill up a form, send in your car registration
Thanked: Once
and insurance papers and pay around a thousand rupees.
NOC from the lending bank (ICICI).
Latest pollution under control certificate

Once you have done the above, you need to apply for transfer at Delhi (or the receiving city). Even
after NOC from Pune, the authority in Delhi took more than a month going back to Pune and cross-
verifying everything. You need to submit the following

registration papers
both the NOCs
PUC certificate from Delhi
In case the car is not the current model (as was with my NHC), you have to submit a proof
that it is Euro - 3 compliant (only in case of Delhi as non-Euro 3 vehicles are not registered
here anymore)
Fill up the necessary forms again (I do not remember the form numbers as it was 8-9 months
ago)

They charged me a sum of INR 30,000 (approx) as road tax + a few hundred rupees to do the
transfer.

Good Luck!

No... I am not sure how to go about doing it. I have moved back to Delhi now and do not have any
family in Pune. How do I go back and ask for a refund. I do not want to travel specially for this.

Costed me about 3K for a bike which is 3 years old, and all documents intact. Actual amount was

cobra_da_king Transfering registration from Bangalore to Delhi

Newbie
I am contemplating buying a new or used car in Bangalore where I currently work. However, I would

for option b), I found out that transporting a car costs in the range of 10K from one of these moving
companies. My question is how much would it cost for changing registration / number plates from
Karnataka to Delhi. Also how easy / difficult is this procedure. Will it make a difference if the car is 1
yr or 4 yr old.

Mods, I don't know if this is the right thread for my post - feel free to move it to the correct forum.

The transfer process of vehicle registered in city A to city B remains the same as described by
Sumed with an additional missing action, to apply for prorata road tax refund from City A once you
have got your City B registration.

Road tax required to be paid will also differ based on the State you are transferring your vehicle to.

I'm going through this now so this is how it works out.
Join Date: Feb 2007
Location: Bangalore You don't need to produce your vehicle to get NOC from state of transfer. (Atleast true for TN,
Posts: 1,350

should be the same elsewhere..)

View My Garage In Bangalore the process works thus.

Submission of documents.
Tax payment
Inspection of car.
Change of address.
Re-apply after 90 days.
New number after another 15 - 90 days.

I'm getting it done through Automobile Association as I'm a member there. I paid Rs.650/- for this
which covers everything from actual RTO charges to whatever else.

I'm getting a change of address now and then I'll have to re-apply. All this will be done by the AAA
itself.

Documents needed:

As mentioned above

If the hypothecation has already been cancelled then no need of bank documents. If its still there
then you need NOC and Form28 if I'm right from the bank.

First there is a change of address. So you have to give address proof. Address proof would be only
DL, Passport, Nationalized bank, LIC or BSNL bill. Nothing else is accepted.

Also needed is Invoice of your car. This is used for tax calculation purposes. If you don't have an
invoice its a problem. They might ask you to go to the dealer and get one for a new car and then
Cost for transfer of registration from one State/Place to another - Page 2... http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian-car-scene/21267-cost-transfer-...

calculate.

Once the documents are submitted you have to get your car for inspection. The RTO inspector will
look at the car and chassis number, inspect if the headlights work well etc. He then signs the form
and you submit the documents for address change.

After 15 days you get your doc's back with the address change in the RC.

Now you have to wait a minimum of 90 days and then resubmit the documents. The RTO sends a
letter of enquiry to your original RTO to check for any problems. Once this is cleared you will get a
new number. This time can be anywhere from 15 days to 90 days.

Actually going to the RTO and doing it also works out. You don't have to pay anyone a penny if your
documents are proper and your vehicle is in good condition.

Agents fleece anywhere from 2K to 5K depending on the car. Taking up an AAA membership helps.
You can actually pay that amount of money to AAA and become a lifetime member and enjoy its
benefits. I do all RTO based transactions through them and don't pay anything extra in the way of
bribes. I just tip the AAA guy who comes there to do all the formalities.

What special facilities do the government of Karnataka or maharashtra provide to car owners to
justify this excess amount (which I believe is 10-12%)? On second thoughts, maybe ir costs a lot to
manufacture all those pot holes and congested roads which unfortunately the Rajasthanis have to do
without

The higher tax is mainly to dissuade people from buying cars and to reduce congestion.

as i know rules are meant make life easier for people not difficult. After all if a vehicle is purchased
in India why does it have to undergo this fiasco.
Better have india registrations rather than state.

By the way i took my Delhi registered bike to Hyderabad every time cops used to stop me i showed
them the RC which had "Registration of India" written at the heading. stayed there for 2yrs without
any hassles.

One main thing which everyone has overlooked is the entry tax. Since the vehicle under question is
less than an year old, you will have to pay entry tax to KA (in addition to the normal road tax). This
entry tax applies to all vehicles less than 15 months of age at the time of migration and the tax , if I
am correct, is 12.5%. More details of this can be had from the commercial tax department , Govt of
KA.
Join Date: Aug 2007
