N O T I C E OF DETERMINATIONS UNDER PART XVI
THE Minister of State for Business and Consumer Affairs, the Honourable J. C. Moore, in pursuance of Section
273B (2) o f the Customs Act 1901, notifies that determinations have been made under Part XVI of that Act, as appended
in the Table hereto.
The Table specifies:
(i) The tariff item normally applicable, except where a number o f tariff items apply, in which case Var. (various)
is stated;
(ii) The kind(s) o f goods to which the determination applies and, where applicable, the conditions specified in the
determination;
(iii) The date on or before which the goods shall be entered for home consumption, if such is a condition of the
determination;
(iv) The item, sub-item, paragraph or sub-paragraph, as the casei may be, in Schedule 1, or the item in Schedule 2,
to the Customs Tariff Act 1966, as proposed to be altered, which shall apply to the goods. Where 4 or more
figures are shown it refers to Schedule 1 and where a 2 figure item is shown it is an item of Schedule 2 ;
(v) The departmental file number (C).
All goods being machinery are, unless otherwise indicated, subject to the provisions of a direction (Separate
Articles Direction) given under paragraph (b) of sub-section (1) o f Section 25 of the Customs Tariff Act 1966, as
proposed to be altered.
Manufacturers who consider that they manufacture goods suitably equivalent to the goods described in the Table
may apply to the Department, quoting the relevant file number, for consideration o f revocation of the determination.
Prospective importers of goods may lodge a by-law application on the approved form, quoting the relevant file
number, in respect of the desired concession. This does not necessarily mean that all goods covered by that description
will obtain similar concessions. Prospective applicants must establish that suitably equivalent goods are not reasonably
available from Australian manufacturers.

NOTICE OF DETERMINATIONS UNDER PART XVI

Navigation Act 1912
ORDER OF EXEMPTION UNDER SECTION 422A
IN pursuance of section 422A of the Navigation Act 1912,1, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia,
acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council
(a) hereby revoke the Order made under that section dated 19 December 1974 and published in the Gazette on
14.1.75; and
(b) being satisfied as regards any ship included in a class of ships described in Column 2 of Part II of Schedule 1,
that such circumstances exist as render compliance with the requirements of the provisions specified in Schedule 2
impracticable, hereby direct that, subject to the conditions, limitations and restrictions expressed in Column 3
of Part II of Schedule 1, opposite to the description of the class of ships in Column 2, any ship included in that
class of ships shall not be required to comply with those requirements.

Part I
(1) In this Schedule, unless the contrary intention appears
'Assistant Director, Surface Operations1 means a person for the time being holding, or performing the duties of,
the office of
(a) Assistant Director, Surface Operations, Department of Transport, Western Australia Region;
(b) Assistant Director, Surface Operations, Department of Transport, Queensland Region; or
(c) Assistant Director, Surface Operations, Department of Transport, South Australia/Northern Territory

'engineer, class A' means an engineer who holds
(a) a certificate of competency, issued under the Act and designated 'Motor' under the Regulations, of a
grade not lower than the qualification issued under the Act and known as a certificate of competency
as first class coast engineer; or
(b) a qualification certified by an Assistant Director, Surface Operations to be of a standard not lower
than the qualification referred to in paragraph (a);
'engineer, class B' means an engineer who holds
(a) a certificate of competency, issued under the Act and designated 'Motor* under the Regulations, of a

Master of a Coast Trade Ship over 300 tons gross register;
(b) a certificate of competency, issued by an authority of the State of Queensland, of a grade not lower
than the certificate issued by that authority and known as a certificate of competency as a Master
Grade 1; or
(c) a qualification certified by an Assistant Director, Surface Operations to be of a standard not lower
than the qualification referred to in paragraph (a);
'master, class B' means a master who holds
(a) a certificate of competency, issued by an authority of the State of Western Australia, of a grade not
lower than the qualification issued by that authority and known as a certificate of competency as
Master of a Coast Trade Ship under 300 tons gross register;
(b) a certificate of competency, issued by an authority of the State of Queensland, of a grade not lower
than the certificate issued by that authority and known as a certificate of competency as Master Grade 2;
or
(c) a qualification certified by an Assistant Director, Surface Operations to be of a standard not lower than
the qualification referred to in paragraph (a);
'mate, class A' means a deck officer who holds
(a) a certificate of competency, issued by an authority of the State of Western Australia, of a grade not
lower than the qualification issued by that authority and known as a certificate of competency as
Mate of a Coast Trade Ship over 300 tons gross register;
(b) a certificate of competency, issued by an authority of the State of Queensland, of a grade not lower
than the certificate issued by that authority and known as a certificate of competency as Mate Grade 1;
or
(c) a qualification certified by an Assistant Director, Surface Operations to be of a standard not lower than
the qualification referred to in paragraph (a);
'mate, class B' means a deck officer who holds
(a) a certificate of competency, issued by an authority of the State of Western Australia, of a grade not
lower than the qualification issued by that authority and known as a certificate of competency as Mate
