INTEGRAL CALCULUS

Course Description:

The course deals with the study of the concept and techniques of integration and
its applications to geometry, physics and mechanics. Topics covered are indefinite,
definite and improper integrals, fundamental integration formulas, methods and
procedures, areas of regions with curved boundary, volumes of solids of revolution, force
and work, surface area and length of an arc, centroids and moment of inertia. It also
includes double and triple integration and their applications.

Course Code : MH311C

No. of Hours : 72 hours
Course Credit Units : 4 units
Prerequisite : Differential Calculus

General Objectives:
At the end of the course, the students must be able to apply the different formulas
and techniques of integration and use the definite integral in calculating areas bounded by
curves, volumes of solids of revolution, force and work, surface area, arc length,
centroids, and moment of inertia of plane and solid figure.

Leaning Competencies:

A. Cognitive
1. Explain clearly the fundamental theorem of integral calculus.
2. Apply the correct integration formula or technique in evaluating a given integral.
3. Solve problems in geometry, physics and mechanics that require integration.
4. Evaluate improper integrals.

B. Affective
1. Use the properties of definite and indefinite integrals as tools in evaluating the
integral.
2. Appreciate and recognize the value of integral calculus in developing theories and
solving practical problems in other branches of science and in all branches of
engineering.
3. Appreciate the need for accuracy in performing ones work;
4. Develop patience and persistence in solving problems;

C. Psychomotor
1. Sketch the graph of the area bounded between the curves.
2. Construct the graph of functions of several variables.
