Poetry us a type of literature that expresses ideas and feelings, or tells a story in a specific form.
-Poetic sound effect- the beat created by the sound of the words in poem. Rhythm can be created by
using, meter, rhymes, alliteration and refrain
-types of feet :
*Rhymes words sound alike because they share the same ending vowel and consonant sound. A word
always rhymes with it self. Example :
Lamp
Stamp
Share the short a vowel sound and the end with mp sound
*end rhyme a word t the end of one line rhymes with a word at the end of another line
*internal line a word inside a line rhymes with another word on the same line
*near rhyme- also known as an imperfect line or close enough the word either the same vowel or the
sound but never both
-other type-
*refrain- a sound, word, phrase or line repeated regularly in a poem, usually at the end of each stanza,
verse, such as the chorus in a song
*tone- used in poetry to convey feeling and emotion, and set the mood for the work. This can be done
through word choice, the grammer arrangement of words, imagery or details that are include or
omitted
*connotation (figurative )- an emotion or social association with a word, giving meaning beyond the
literal definition
*denotation(literal)- the specific, literal image, idea, concept, or object that a word or phrase refers to
>metaphor- compare two unlike things where one word is used to designate the other
*extended metaphor- continue for several lines or possibly the entire length of a work
*assonance- repeated vowel sound in a line of poem, often create a near rhyme
*idiom- the literal meaning of the word, is not the meaning of the word but something else
