ABOUT ME
My name is Siyabonga Wilson Mondhlana, I am 19 years old and I am from Mpumalanga
(The place of the rising sun). I was born In a place called Mzinti in the year 1998. When I was
7 years old we then moved, my family and I from Mzinti to a place called Steenbok, and
thats where I started schooling. I attended my primary school at Bhambatha primary school.
I then went to Steenbok high school, and thats where my life began I can say. Thats where I
discovered the true motives of me being in this world.
Back when I started high school, I was not that much smart I dont know maybe that was
because I didnt know my purpose in life. I was neither smart nor dump I was just a
moderate child who attended school just because his parents forced him to. I was inspired
by my mathematics teacher Mr Modika T, he made me believe that nothing was impossible
in life.

I managed to upgrade myself when it comes to my school work in grade 11, I got level 4,4
and 5 in Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences respectively through the
inspiration I got from my maths teacher. Then In grade 12 I managed to obtain even better
results.

GRADE 12 RESULTS

These results got me where I am today, which is at the Tshwane University of Technology
(Soshanguve campus). I am doing B. Ed (BEEDS 7 @NATURAL SCIENCES). My favourite
subjects are Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Communication in Afrikaans and Educational
Management. The reason why Maths and Physical Sciences are one of my favourite subjects
is that they give me challenge some times, and I like challenges because they help me
discover some hidden information about these subjects, they also make me live a joyful and
stress free life as I apply them daily. The reason why Afrikaans is also one of my favourite is
because I love learning more about other peoples language, I chose Afrikaans over Sepedi
because there are many Sepedi speaking people here In Soshanguve and I believe I can learn
Sepedi on them since some are my friends, and some are my fellow classates.
Lastly the reason why I chose Educational Management as one of my favourite subjects is
that, since I am the teacher in the making and EGT will assist me in becoming a good teacher
as it teaches student teachers how to manage their class, how to become an ideal teacher
and so on and so on. EGT teaches student teachers everything they need to know about
their profession.

THE REASON WHY I CHOSE TO BECOME A TEACHER

As mentioned before that I got the influence from my maths teacher, after noticing my
improvements he started asking me to go and do revision with the lower grades, grade 11
and 10. After noticing all the attention I got from the learners and how enthusiastic they
were to see me before them delivering a lesson, I started enjoying myself. I realised I could
make an impact on a childs life like my former maths teacher did to mine. So I can say he is
one of the reasons why I decided to do education. The other reason is that I like seeing
children learn to read, write and count, and I want to support them in learning successfully. I
also want to pass my knowledge and enable the learners to further their studies in different
fields and also reach their full potential.

THE TEACHING PROFESSION

A lot of people take teaching for granted, theyll be judging us based on our salary saying
teachers earns peanuts forgetting that teaching is the mother of all professions, so I would
like people to start taking this profession seriously. Our country is running in short of
teachers, we need competent teachers who can guide all the children of this country to be
whatever they want to be.

I like this profession, and I am ready to do whatever it takes to be in the profession. I am

ready to take all the responsibilities I have to take as a teacher, like adapting to the constant
changes in the educational field, the extra workload, new policies, new technology and so on
and so on.

HIGH SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS

During my matric year 2015 I was at my level best performance, was working very hard
because I could smell university and that was the feeling that was driving me to do the best
at all times. Towards the end of the year I received a certificate of improvement, and that
pushed me even harder because it was the first certificate I ever recieved that had
something to do with my performance at school.

UNIVERSITY

The Tshwane University of Technology is one of the best university that offers the best when
it comes to the B.Ed course. So that is why I chose them to be the one resposible for my
training as a teacher.
I believe in the slogan we empower people. Looking at those people who are already in
the teaching profession who were trained at the Tshwane University of Technology, they
really seem empowered. They display the characteristics of an ideal teacher, they comply to
the rules and regulations and the ethics conducted by the SOUTH AFRICAN COUNCIL FOR
EDUCATORS (SACE), they dress appropriate, so I can say I chose the right institution.

MY FIRST EXPERIENCE AT TEACHING PRACTICE

That was one of the greatest feelings I ever experienced, the fact that not so long ago I was a
learner at that school but I then came back as a colleague to my former teachers gave me
some sort of inspiration. Being part of the staff member made me to see the life that I have
to live in future, being a teacher. I really enjoyed it so much, I even wished I stayed a little
longer until I was satisfied, but that was something you can never get satisfied of. Being
before the learners made me realise that their education was depended on me, so I made
sure that every time I entered the classroom I make a different on a childs life.

GSD COMMUNITY PROJECT

On the 30st of July and 10th of August 2017 my fellow classmates and I visited a primary
school called Ephumzile Primary school located near our campus. They welcomed us with
warm hands, and allowed us to do our project. We then clean the yard by collecting papers
and we also clean windows just to contribute to the community.

We also went to the school garden and help where we could, and after that the school
printed a certificate to prove that we went to their school, and we have done what we went
there to do.
