Dear Mr. Vieselmeyer and Mr. Dunn:

Thank you for your e-mail advocating for full institution searches upon the implementation of the
Whole Body X-Ray Security Scanning System at all Ontario adult correctional facilities.

I appreciate your positive comments in support of Ontario's decision to invest in Whole Body
X-Ray Security Scanning Systems in all 26 of our correctional institutions. I take the safety and
security of our institutions very seriously. Enhancing security in correctional facilities across the
province is a key part of the government's transformation of Ontario's correctional system to
build safer communities.

As you are already aware, the ministry is moving forward with a pilot project at the Maplehurst
Correctional Complex to conduct a full institution search, including a full body scan of all
existing inmates. Operational plans will be developed by institution officials in conjunction with
the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and the pilot is anticipated to commence
early in 2017.

We will continue to work with OPSEU, the Ministry Employee Relations Committee, and the
Provincial Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, as we review the results of this
pilot project.

Thank you again for your e-mail.

David Orazietti
Minister
