POSITIONING
Maps
Nokia Maps uses GPS to find locations. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide radio navigation system
that includes 24 satellites and their ground stations that monitor the operation of the satellites.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is operated by the government of the United States, which is solely responsible for
its accuracy and maintenance. The accuracy of location data can be affected by adjustments to GPS satellites made by
the United States government and is subject to change with the United States Department of Defense civil GPS policy
and the Federal Radionavigation Plan. Accuracy can also be affected by poor satellite geometry. Availability and quality
of GPS signals may be affected by your location, buildings, natural obstacles, and weather conditions. The GPS receiver
should only be used outdoors to allow reception of GPS signals.

GPS should only be used as a navigation aid. It should not be used for precise location measurement and you should
never rely solely on location data from the GPS receiver for positioning or navigation.

Your device needs to measure the distance to four satellites to be able to determine your position in the Maps
application.

To get a satellite signal, do the following:

• Go outdoors.
• Slide open the numeric keypad.
• Find an open area.
• Check that your hand does not cover the numeric keypad under which the antenna is situated.

In Maps, the satellite icon on the display indicates whether your device has been able to receive signals from the
satellites and determine its location. A red cross in the icon means that your device has not yet been able to determine
the location. To view detailed satellite status information and see the strength of satellite signals indicated as bars,
select Options > Map options > Satellite info; or press the menu key, and select Tools > GPS data > Position >
Options > Satellite status. When your device has been able to determine your location, the signal bars turn black.

To download maps to your device, use Nokia Map Loader PC software, which is available at www.nokia.com/Maps.
Nokia does not charge for these maps. You must have a compatible microSD card inserted, and you must have used the
Maps application at least once before you can use Nokia Map Loader. Make the connection between your device and a
compatible PC with a compatible USB data cable, or use a compatible microSD card reader. If you use a USB data cable,
select Mass storage as the connection mode.

The map coverage varies by country.

Almost all digital cartography is inaccurate and incomplete to some extent. Never rely solely on the cartography that
you download for use in this device.

To search for a location on the map, select Options > Search > By category, By name, or By address. To move from one
search result to the next, press the scroll key. To view a search hit on the map, select Options > Full screen. Use the
scroll key to move on the map.

To use a compatible external GPS receiver supporting Bluetooth connectivity with your device, connect the GPS receiver

key, and select Tools > Settings > General > Positioning > Positioning methods > Bluetooth GPS > Enable.

To view all open applications in a list and switch between them, press and hold the menu key. To close an application,

key exits the application but does not close it. The application stays active in the background. To close Music and web
browser, when the application is active, select Options > Exit.

saved in the Drafts folder.
