Here WEE Grow Again is looking for a strong volunteer force to assist with our
upcoming Fall sale! Have you ever thought of volunteering with the sale? It is
a lot of fun and provides us the opportunity to meet hundreds of people from
the Charlottesville community who come through our doors as shoppers,
consignors and volunteers. We have both women and MEN who volunteer!

 Disciple I: New Bible Study Opportunity
Do you want to know more about the Bible, what it says, and what it means
for your life today? Do you have unanswered questions about the nature of
God and your relationship to God? Do you struggle with what it means to
be a disciple of Jesus Christ? If you answered yes to any of those questions,
then Disciple Bible Study may be for you. Disciple I is an in-depth study in
which each participant reads 80% of the Bible in 34 weeks and attends a
two-hour discussion group each week. This new group will begin meeting
here at Aldersgate every Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. beginning
September 12. The study is designed for a group no larger than 12-14
people. Here is what Disciple says about itself: In Disciple I Becoming
Disciples Through Bible Study, persons grow in understanding their lives
biblically as they respond to the invitation to become committed disciples.
The goals for this ministry are:
For all class members to become more biblically literate
and spiritually nourished disciples.
To develop devoted church leaders and lay members.
To learn how to witness about ones faith to others
and to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.
To build stronger churches.
This is clearly a long-term commitment of time and study, but the rewards
are many. If you feel a call to deepen your relationship to God, please

Camp Young At Heart

Enjoy three days of learning, entertainment, and fellowship with other

Director of Youth Ministries
Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia seeks a
part-time (10-15 hours per week) Director of Youth Ministries. As a
member of Aldersgates staff, the Director of Youth Ministries works
closely with the lead pastor and the Churchs ministry teams to plan,
implement, support, and advance opportunities for youth (grades 6-12)
and their families to experience Christ and grow in faith and fellowship.
Qualified applicants should possess a bachelors degree as well as passion
and relevant experience working with youth in an engaging Christian

The Autumn edition of our church magazine is scheduled to be
published mid-September. If you have an article or photos to share,
please submit them to Amy OBrien, Church Administrator no later than
9am, Tuesday, September 5 (AmyOBrien@cvaumc.org). Submissions
received after this time will be included in the Christmas edition.

 Interim Coordinator
for Children and Youth Ministries
Aldersgate is pleased to announce that our own Carolyn Robertson will be
serving as the interim coordinator for our children and youth ministries! In
keeping with church policy, Carolyn will be directly supervised by the Staff
Parish Relations Committee. With a bachelors degree from Longwood,
Carolyn brings a unique set of skills from working both in business and in
school-based settings. Carolyn has taught middle school and worked in
educational administration. She previously served on the board of the
Tidewater Chapter of the Upper Room Global Ministries, and she
currently is a Trustee and Education Committee Chair for the Virginia
Aquarium and Marine Science Center Foundation in Virginia Beach.
Carolyn provided Christian leadership in her former churches, including
coordinating VBS, leading youth group and adult Bible study groups, and
leading acolyte ministries (as we've already seen here at AUMC). Carolyn
will coordinate and support Aldersgates children and youth ministries
until the open staff positions are filled.

New Sunday morning opportunity
for adults of all ages
This new adult class will begin with a study of Adam Hamilton's book Half
Truths: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things The
Bible Doesn't Say. With Hamilton we will look at simple phrases we have
all heard, phrases that sound Christian, like something you might find in
the Bible. We've all heard these words, maybe even said them. These
words capture some element of truth, yet miss the point in important
ways. In this study we will join together to search for the whole truth by
comparing these common Christian clichs to the message and ministry
of Jesus. This study will begin on Sunday, September 24 at 10:00 in the
Fellowship Hall (Ground Floor). Please email Pat MacNicoll at

Music Groups Begin Rehearsing Soon!
Join in leading Gods praise
Aldersgates Music Ministry is a vibrant part of our worship services. All
ability levels are encouraged to participate. Where might YOU fit in?
Aldersgate Ringers Our year begins in September (the week of Labor
Day) and ends in June. We rehearse weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6
to 7:15pm, and we provide our musical offerings about every six weeks.
All ages are welcome. Experience is preferred but not required. The
choir is active September through May.
Chancel Choir (adult choir) begins rehearsals on Wednesday, September
6 at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary.
Instrumental Ensemble begins rehearsals on Monday, September 11, at
6pm in the Sanctuary.
Joyful Noise Singers (childrens choir) begin rehearsals on Sunday,
September 10 during Childrens Sunday School.
Youth Praise Band rehearsals are on Sundays from 3:15-4:45, starting

 Aldersgate Young Professionals
You are invited to join Aldersgate's Young Professionals Group (ages 18-
35) for food and fellowship! This group seeks to grow in relationship
with one another as we journey through this life and walk with Christ. It
does not matter how long you have been attending Aldersgate or
attending church - you are invited and also encouraged to bring a friend!

Aldersgate occasionally needs adult volunteers to help in the infant and

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BACKPACK PROGRAM
At 6pm on Wednesday evenings during the school year, volunteers go to
Greer Elementary School and pack approximately 130 bags of food for
underserved families within the Greer community. The food is taken home
by students on Fridays. The families who receive this food may not
otherwise have adequate food resources for the weekend. We are in need
of volunteers to help with this program. Your time commitment is 30
minutes once a month. Please consider being the hands and feet of Jesus

School Supply Update

On August 19 , members of Aldersgate packed and delivered over 120
bags of school supplies to Greer Elementary School. These supplies will
help underserved children at Greer begin the school year with supplies
they need to help make for a successful learning experience. Because of
Aldersgates generosity, we will also be able to help restock some supplies
which will be needed later in the school year.
Just how much these supplies are appreciated by the Greer community
became apparent when an ESOL teacher walked by while we were
unloading at the school. Her enthusiasm was obvious as she expressed her
gratitude and said, There are not enough thank you notes that we can
send that would express our appreciation and gratitude for what your
church does for our school. Thank you for contributing to this mission.
And thank you for giving these children a feeling of acceptance, self-worth
and the knowledge that Jesus loves them and so do we. Thanks be to God.
