1. There are two parts (A and B) in this writing paper. Answer Part A and ONE question from Part B.

2. You are reminded of the importance of clear handwriting and the need for planning and
proofreading.

3. DO NOT use your real name in answering any of the questions. If names are provided in the
question, you must use those names. If no name is provided and you still wish to use a name to
identify yourself, then use Chris Wong. If you need to use names for other characters in the
composition not specified by the question, you may use names such as Mary, Peter, Wai Yee, Mr
Smith, Ms Young, etc.

4. You are required to include sentences with both (1) relative clauses AND (2) participle phrases in
both Parts A and B, and underline the patterns. Marks will be deducted if you do not.

PART B

For questions 2 - 5, choose ONE of the following topics and write about 300 words in the space provided
on pages 5 - 7.

2. Learning English through Drama

Yesterday, you attended an all-day drama workshop for young actors / actresses. Write a diary entry

describing the workshop, what you did and / or learnt, and how you felt about the experience.

3. Learning English through Debating

You were part of the audience in a debate held in your school. You had a different idea with the team

representing your class. Write a blog entry arguing for or against the following motion: School

clubs are a waste of time. Students would be better off focusing exclusively on their studies.

4. Learning English through Social Issues

You have just found out that your local park might soon be replaced with a new shopping mall. You

are horrified to find out that your friend Chris supports the scheme. You have decided to change his

mind by writing to him, describing how different the area would be without the park.

5. Learning English through Sports Communication

Your school Principal is concerned that many students are not participating in sports activities. He

has asked students to suggest ways to encourage their peers to take part in sports. Write an article for

the school magazine explaining the reasons behind the phenomenon and suggesting solutions.
