The Lady Demons beaten at home by Sequoyah Lady Demons

by Kaitlyn Dillard

Beggs fast pitch softball team lost against Sequoyah fast pitch team Monday night, 10-3. However, the
Lady Demons did not let the Lady Indians leave with a shutout win, earning three runs against their
pitcher.

In the first game of the night, the Lady Demons fought hard against the Sequoyah Lady Indians but
eventually lost 10-3. The top of the first inning the Lady Demons Freshman Pitcher Kacee Phelps could
not gain her footing, giving away six hits and one run. Though she did give away hits, Phelps was able to
get the first out of the night by catching a ground ball and getting the runner out at first. After establishing
their first out, the Lady Demons were able to get two consecutive outs off of fly balls to left and center
field, quickly turning the inning over to their offense.

The Lady Demons were able to get a few hits while batting in the bottom of the first. Senior Halli Beaver
got the first hit of the night with a slammer to right field, which was quickly caught by Sequoyahs right
fielder. Senior Shae Martin did not have much luck with hits in the first inning either, getting a grounder
and an out at first base.

It was Senior Mallorie Willburns triple that could have changed the tone for the game; yet, it was closely
followed a strikeout while swinging by Senior Third Baseman Kaylee Hutton, leaving Sequoyah ahead
with a score of 1-0.

The top of the second inning played out similarly to the first inning with the Lady Indians earning one run
before the Lady Demons defense could shut them down.

With the Sequoyah ahead by two, Beggs needed the bottom of the second to get ahead; yet, the Lady
Demons were unable to earn any runs throughout the inning. Junior Ashlyn Wilder was the first Lady
Demon to get on base in the second inning with a single down the first base line. It was short lived with
Freshman Shelby Caldwell hitting a foul caught by the Sequoyah catcher, leaving the Beggs fast pitch
team with no runs and Sequoyah with two runs in the second inning.

The third inning played out in Beggs favor with three consecutive outs and no runs, giving the Lady
Demons offense a chance at redemption. The top of the line up, including Beaver and Martin, were able to
get on base due to errors, but again the Lady Demons were stonewalled by the Sequoyah defense.

The Lady Demons, tried as they might, could not stop the Lady Demons from setting their lead in stone
with three runs in the fourth inning including a home run, giving them an even greater lead of 5-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Barnes was able to get another hit off the Sequoyah pitcher, earning a single
and getting on base. Phelps would then make a sacrifice bunt to advance Barnes to second base, which
was quickly followed by Barnes stealing to third. The Lady Demons were set up to earn their first run of
the night, but the Lady Indians defense proved too strong swiftly bringing an end to the inning by
catching two fly balls.

It was in the top of the fifth inning that the Lady Indians solidified their lead for good, earning five runs
throughout the inning. However, Beggs did not allow Sequoyah to leave without earning runs. Beggs
Center Fielder Devyn Hightower was the first Lady Demon to get to home. Hightowers single turned the
tables, allowing Beaver and Senior Short Stop Mallorie Wilburn to get a run each. Though they were not
able to overcome Sequoyahs lead, Beggs was able to earn three runs, making the score at the end of the
fifth inning 10-3.
