LESSON SEQUENCE
A) INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY:
Also
Some NGOs are organized around specific issues, like:
Building things - schools, wells, hospitals
Protecting the right of women and kids
Making sure kids get education or making sure people get health care not only by
providing the building, but also the doctors and nurses
NGOs provide:
Analysis - they study the problems and how best to fix them. You dont just decide to
build a well. You need to understand how to get the supplies and the labour to do it
Expertise - once theyve built a well in one place, they know what the problems and
solutions are, and can transfer that to the next place they want to build a well.
Help monitoring and implementing international agreements - if the Canadian or other
government has agreed to provide help and/or money, they make sure the help and
money goes to where it is supposed to go.
B) DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES:
Partner project
NGOs are first come, first serve

The Task
Your class, as good global citizens, has decided to show their concern for others and has raised
$5,000 to contribute to a worthwhile non-governmental organization (NGO), but they can't
seem to decide on which NGO to support. Your task is to research one possible recipient of the
money, and to decide whether or not you would recommend this particular organization for the
funding. You will create a brochure for the organization, which you will present to the class.
After the presentations, the class as a whole will vote on which NGO is to receive your funds, so
your careful analysis and considered opinions matter.
Using the information found on your NGO's website, and other resources, answer the questions
listed below as Background Information. You will be handing in this sheet as part of your
background research for marks.
Create a brochure for your chosen NGO. The purpose of the brochure is to create awareness
and interest in your organization so that the class will vote for your NGO to receive the $5000!
The contents of your brochure must follow the guidelines listed here.
