1. Introduction
The Halliburton S7 OPC Server provides an OPC server for communicating with the MPD Siemens S7 PLC
on the choke skid. The OPC server provides a configurator user interface for setting up the network
communication and configuring the PLC project files.

2. Getting Started

2.1.Installation
Install Halliburton S7 OPC Server

2.2.Set Up
The Halliburton OPC server should be running as a Windows Service showing an icon in the
system tray (lower right corner of the desktop).

A. Right click on the icon and select Stop Server.
B. Right-click on the icon and select Start Configurator.

C. If no existing PLC connection exists, Click Add. Otherwise click Edit

D. Press the Browse button beside the S7 Project file edit box and navigate
to the project file (.s7p). Project files depend on the PLC version. The files
are typically stored in the C:\Siemens directory.

E. Click Open and the path and filename now appear in your previous

window. Click Ok again to dismiss the PLC dialog.

F. Now, click Test Connection. The server should find the PLC.
G. Select Process Project File to cache the file. This will decrease startup
load time.
H. Click Ok to exit the configurator.
I. Right-click on the System Tray icon and select Restart Server. After several seconds, the
icon should turn green and, if you hover the mouse over the icon, the Running message
should appear.

3. Operation

3.1.Commanding the S7 OPC Server


The OPC server can be commanded from the system tray icon. Right click on the icon to display the
following commands.

3.2.S7 OPC Server Status


The system tray icon can be monitored to view the OPC server status

Color Status
Green Server is running
Grey Server is not running
Yellow The selected project files do not match the
PLC version.

3.3.PLC Status

The OPC configurator can be used to view the PLC status

Color Status
Green PLC is connected
Grey Network is not connected
Yellow PLC version mismatch
Red PLC is not communicating
