Safety Symbols
Table 1 lists safety symbols and their meanings.
Danger:
Indicates an imminently hazardous situation, which, if not avoided,
could result in death or serious injury. Limit its use to only extreme
situations.
Warning:
Indicates a hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, could result
in serious injuries, equipment damages or interruption of major
services.
Caution:
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which, if not avoided,
could result in moderate injuries, equipment damages or partial
service interruption.
Note:
Indicates helpful information, which, if ignored, could result in mi-
nor injuries, equipment damages or partial service interruption.
Warning:
Drilling in the cabinet without prior permission is prohibited. Un-
necessary drilling can damage cables inside the cabinet. The metal
pieces blown in during drilling can cause short circuits in the circuit
board.
Static Electricity
Electrostatic:
Static electricity produced by human body can damage electro-
static-sensitive components on the circuit board, such as Large
Integrated Circuits (LIC).
Laser
Laser:
Do not stare at the laser beam from the optical terminal or the
laser beam inside the optical fiber; otherwise human eyes would
be hurted.
High Temperature
Danger:
The temperature of some components' surface is quite high. Do
not touch the surface to avoid a scald injury.
Fans
Warning:
Keep fingers or tools away from the running fan blades unless the
fan is powered off and fan blades stop running. Keep your fingers
or body away from any component that ise still running.
Hoisting Weights
Warning:
Make sure that no one stays or walks under the hoisted weight.
Caution:
Operators must wear the antistatic wrist strap.
Do not plug in a board with great force as it might bend the
pins at the backplane.
Insert the module along the slot to avoid the circuit surface of
modules touching each other lest there is any short circuit.
While holding a module, do not touch its circuits, components,
connectors, and wiring trough.
The RF module is very hot during the running process, oper-
ators must be very careful in pluging/unpluging it to avoid a
scald injury.
Personnel
Caution:
Non-professionals can not perform maintenance inside the equip-
ment unless under the instructions of professionals on the site.

Context
Note:
The IDU S400 is designed to be dissipating heat naturally. Thus
a space of over 1 U should be reserved up from and below
it, preventing hot gas flow generated by other devices from
entering it.
The IDU S500 is designed to be dissipating heat by wind. Thus
suffcient space should be reserved at wind entries which are on
the left and the right of it, guaranteeing good heat dissipation.

Overview
Cable Installation Flow
The cable installation flow is listed as follows:
1. Install the protective grounding cable.
2. Install the power cable.
3. Install the intermediate frequency cable.
4. Install the signal cable.
5. Install the DSC, EDI, and EOW cable.
6. Check the installation.
Installation Protection
Ground Cable
Installing IDU Protective Grounding
Cable
Prerequisites IDU is installed inside the cabinet.
When installing the IDU, the dual-hole terminal of the protec-
tive grounding cable is fixed on the IDU's grounding terminal.
Steps 1. According to the distance from the grounding point, cut the
protective grounding cable short and crimp the terminal.
2. Connect the protective grounding cable with the IDU's ground-
ing point, which is on the right part behind IDU.
3. Bundle the cables.
END OF STEPS
Context
Caution:
If the system provides power supply for IDU through external
power supply such as the power cabinet, then at the end of the
power cable where the external power supply is connected, make
the corresponding terminal according to the power cable specifica-
tion. When making the terminal, crimp the interface firmly, insert
the connector into a heat-shrinkable tube, and make sure that the
bare wire and the interface are covered.
Steps 1. Connect the power cable's cold-pressed terminal with the out-
put terminal of the cabinet's power box, and fix the terminal.
The black cable is connected with the power supply's ground,
and the blue cable is connected with the -48 V power supply.
2. Lay the power cable to the IDU.
3. Connect the power cable.
4. Bundle the power cable.
5. Paste the engineering labels at the two ends of the power cable.
END OF STEPS
Installing Intermediate
Frequency Cable
Prerequisites The ODU protective grounding cable is installed.
Context
Caution:
To protect the N-type connector, installation personnel can only
use hand or torque spanner to fasten the N-type connector (the
fastening torque is 1.7 Nm).
When laying the Intermediate Frequency (IF) cable or bend-
ing the IF cable, it is prohibited to use the IF cable's N-type
connector or the ODU's IF interface as the fulcrum. This helps
protect the N-type connector or the IF interface.
Steps 1. According to the designed distance between IDU and ODU, cut
the IF cable with a margin of 3 m ~ 5 m.
2. Make the IF cable connector that connects the ODU. After the
connector is made, take appropriate protection measures to
protect the connector from being damaged in hoisting or cable
laying.
3. Paste temporary labels at the two ends of the IF cable.
4. Reserve sufficient length for the IF cable, lay the cable and
bundle it along the pole, cabling ladder, and cabling rack.
5. Connect the IF cable's N-type connector to the ODU's IF inter-
face, and fasten it.
6. Perform waterproof handling for the interfaces of ODU and IF
cable.
END OF STEPS
2. Reserve sufficient length for the E1 cable, lay the cable and
bundle it along the pole, cabling ladder, and cabling rack.
3. Insert the E1 cable into the jack of E1 TU panel of IDU tightly.
END OF STEPS
3. Insert one end of EDI cable into the serial port of IDU tightly,
and connect the other end of EDI cable with the external equip-
ment.
