TheEuropeanCreditsTransferSystem(ECTS)guaranteesthemutualacademicrecognition
ofstudiescarriedout.Suchrecognitionisensuredby:
Outline,priortogoingabroad,ofaprogrammeofstudiesbilaterallyapprovedbythe
homeinstitutionandhostinstitution,includingtheECTScreditsthatwillbegiven
afterrequirementsaremet(examination,assessment,etc.)
Establishmentofagradetranscriptclearlypresentingthelearningoutcomes
achieved,transferablefromoneinstitutiontoanother.Itindicatesforeachcourse
takennotonlytheECTScredits,butalsothegradesobtainedaccordingtothelocal
gradingsystemandinaccordancewiththeECTSgradingscale.Thecombinationof
thesetwosetsofgradesandECTSprovidesaqualitativeandquantitativesummary
oftheworkaccomplished.

TheECTSgradingscalefacilitatestheinterpretationofgradesobtainedinanother
institutionunderadifferentgradingsystem.Itdoesnotreplacethelocalgradingsystem.Its
useremainswithinthediscretionofthehighereducationinstitutionsconcerned.Subjects

FRENCH GRADES EXPLANATION (UNIVERSITY LEVEL)

Grades in France are awarded on a scale of 0 (lower grade) to 20 (higher grade).


The passing grade for a single subject is usually 10/20. Grades higher than 16/20 are seldom
awarded.
A student is considered to have passed the year (admis) when the combined average
(moyenne gnrale) of grades is 10 or above for each semester.
