4. PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOME (PLO)

Upon successful completion of this diploma programme, graduates will be able to:

Understand the concept of policing, investigation techniques of enforcement


agencies.

Manage, lead and use policing and investigation techniques to form effective and
efficient teams.

Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and the use of skills befitting an officer of


the enforcement agencies.

Apply the knowledge acquired to serve as officers of the enforcement agencies in


any public or private sector organization.

Understand the criminal justice system, the roles and functions of its three
component.

Understand the responsibility, need for cooperation and commitments for the
preservation of peace and safety through effective policing, enforcement and
investigation.

Understand crime and deviant behaviour, their causes, how to prevent and
investigate them.

5. RATIONALE FOR THE INCLUSION OF MODULE IN THE PROGRAMME


The lessons and topics in this module will expose students to the understanding of
individuals, groups and the organizations. It is very important for every individual in any
group or organization to work together and it needs them to blend into a cohesive group.
This will only materialise if we know everybodys strength, weaknesses their perception,
background including psychological make-up. Group formation, team building and
motivation are areas to be given prominence towards building an effective and efficient
workforce.

Upon completion of this course, students will:

Know the role of individual and group in an organization.


Understand different types of motivation theories.
Understand the leadership styles, authority and power.
Acquire knowledge on managing stress and conflict in an organization.
Understand change process and how to manage resistance.
Understand the importance of communication.

12. TRANSFERABLE SKILLS

The knowledge of organizational behavior can be transferred to some of the other


modules in the course especially Principle of Management.

13. TEACHING-LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGY

Students will be given notes and handouts at the beginning of the class and they are
required to read in advance before they are being explained by the lecturer. This is to
enable students to follow the lecture based on the given notes. Exercises in the form of
tutorials, assignments, presentations and Q&A will be done to assess students
understanding on the topics in the module.

14. SYNOPSIS

This module begins with the introduction to an organization including its structures,
cultures, aims and its objectives. We will then move to areas of individuals personality,
traits, perception and their attitudes before moving to study and learn on the what and
how to motivate people. Students will then be introduced to the study of groups, its
characeristics, nature, the formation and its development. Next, will be the study on
organizational effectiveness, looking at leadership styles, authority and the bases of
power. Managing stress will also be introduced to enable student to understand its
causes and how to mange not only stress, but conflicts. As change is the only thing that
is permanent, we will ensure students will understand what causes change, the change
processs and managing resistant and overcoming resistance to change. This module
ends with the topics on communication which will include interpersonal and
organizational communication. Types of communication including the non-verbal
communication, overcoming barriers to effective communication will be dealt with.

Lectures, tutorials, discussions and group.

Approaches:
Deductive, Socrative, Situational, ILS, Mastery Learning, Problem based and Outcome
based Learning.
