Practices during Rajab

Allah Almighty's Most Beloved One, Muhammad, The Glory of all Creation, made many
heavenly ascensions, but the 27th of Rajab is the traditional remembrance of these great
events.

Du'a of the Saint of Rajab AwliAbbas

The dua used by AwliAbbas is a very important dua which all are advised to read three times
a day (in Arabic or English) during the month of Rajab. Mawlana Sheikh Nazim said that this
dua cleans you from all your sins and leaves you as pure as a newly born child. It is a very
famous dua in the Sufi orders.

Bismillah ir Rahman ir Rahim

Allhumma inni astaghfiruka min kulli ma tubtu laha ilayka thumma adtu fihi. Wa astaghfiruka
min kulli ma aradtu bihi wajhaka wa khalatani fihi ma laysa fihi ridaka. Wa astaghfiruka Im
niam allati taqawwaytu biha ala masiatika. Wa astaghfiruka minadh dhunub illati la yalamuha
ghayruka wa la yattaliu alayha ahadim siwaka wa la yasauha illa rahmatuka wa latunji minha
illa maghfiratuka wa hilmuka. La ilaha illa anta Subhanaka inni kuntu minadh dhalimin.

Allahumma inni astaghfiruka min dhulmin dhalamtu bihi ibadaka fa ayyama abdin min ibadaka
aw amatin min imaika dhalamtu fi badamihi aw irdihi aw malihi fa atihi min kharainik allati la
tanqusu wa asaluka an tukrimani bi rahmatik allafi wasiat kulla shay. Wa la tuhimani bi
adhabika wa tatiyani ma asaluka fa inni haqiqun bi rahmatika ya Arhamar Rahimin. Wa
saliAllahu ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa alihi wa sahbihi ajmain. Wa la hawla wa la
quwwata illa billahi Aliyy al Adhim.

In the Name of Allah, The All Beneficent, The All Merciful.

Practices during Rajab

O Allah, I ask forgiveness of you for everything for which I repented to You and then returned to.
I ask forgiveness of You for everything I displeased You with and all that concerns me with
which You are displeased O Allah. I ask forgiveness of You for the favours which I used for
increasing my disobedience towards You. I ask forgiveness of You for the sins which no one
knows except You and no one sees except You and nothing encompasses except Your mercy
and nothing delivers from except Your forgiveness and clemency. There is no god except You
alone. You are most High, and I was one of the oppressors.

O Allah, I ask forgiveness of You for the injustice I committed against Your servants. Whatever
of your male or female servants whom I have hurt, physically or in their dignity or in their
property, give them of Your bounty which lacks nothing. And I ask You to honour me with Your
Mercy which encompasses all things. Do not humble me with your punishment but give me
what I ask of You, for I am in great need of Your Mercy. O Most Merciful of the merciful. May
Allah send blessings upon Muhammad and all his companions. There is no power nor might
except in Allah, The High, The Exalted.

Such is the barakat, or blessing of this month, that it has traditionally been the month of khalwat,
or seclusion and withdrawal from this world for 40 days and nights, and fasting during daylight
hours. Every Prophet through to Jesus Christ and Muhammad s.a. has kept this practice, and all
the awliya, or Saints, and Holy Ones also. Our beloved Sheikh has given us the good tidings
that we are not excluded from its blessings and forgiveness if we make the intention at the start
of the month, and, setting aside a quiet moment every day, even if it is just a few minutes,
contemplate, and be near our Lord for a while.

Special recitations

The following awrad, or special recitations, have been given as a part of our daily practices for
this month. Whatever you may do of it, a little part of it, or all of it, may Allah Bless you, and
forgive us!

Rajab daily:

- 1,000 Astaghfirullah
- 1,000 La ilaha ill'Allah
- 1000 La ilaha ill'Allah Muhammadur Rasulullah

2/3
Practices during Rajab

Spread out during the month:

- 16,000 Ya Latif = 500 per day

- 30 Rakat (In each Fatihah + 11 Ikhlas...')

1st-10th of Rajab:

100 Subhanallah-il-Hayy-il-Qayyum

10th-20th of Rajab:

- 100 Subhanallah-il-Ahad as Samad

20th-30th of Rajab:

- 100 Subhanallah-ir-Ra'uf

Fasting

The traditional way of fasting in the Holy Months of Rajab and Sha'aban is kept with in the Most
Noble Naqshbandi tariqat, or Path, as follows:

- Fast during daylight hours every Monday and Thursday.

- Fast the 13th, 14th, and 15th of the Lunar month.
- Fast the 26th and 27th of Rajab.

Note of Caution

A spiritual exercise must be like clothing for the murid. It is a most natural and easy thing to
wear suitable and well fitting clothes, especially such a cloak of honour as found in the
Naqshbandi Way. But if the exercise exceeds the capacity of the murid, it becomes like a heavy
weight. If the exercise doesn't fit, he or she must carry it around like a heavy burden, and will be
looking for the first opportunity to dump it. Take from these devotions, according to your
capacity!
