Choose 1 of the following essay topics:

1. Developing countries are known for their increase in population and mismanagement of
funds. Wafula (2008: 13) has stated that, poverty in Africa is an inherited, created and
superimposed epidemic. Critically comment on this statement looking at the past injustices
as well as a way forward for these struggling developing countries.

2. Examine the urbanisation trends affecting developing countries. Your essay should provide
relevant case studies.

3. Dadzie (2008: 40) has stated, a true friend is the one who seeks the interest of the other
person and not his own interest and the IMF and the World Bank should take up this
challenge and demonstrate to the world to be a true friend of Africa through the humane
side of globalisation and not to perpetuate poverty through the monstrous side of
globalisation. Evaluate this statement with relevant case studies.

4. Provide a critique of the theories that are used to create a dependency relationship between
developed and developing countries. In this critique, you should also try to identify a way
forward for these developing countries.

5. Structural adjustment policies bank on women in that they reinforce womens oppression
and rely on it to work, (Chang 2000:126). Critically analyse this statement, especially
focusing on how structural adjustment programs has affected women economically and
socially.
