In groups discuss where the scenes take
place ,who the people are and what are they
doing
The picture represents a re-imagined American flag (the Star-
Spangled Banner, the Stars and Stripes). We can recognise
the horizontal red stripes, made with chili peppers,
alternating with white, and in the top left-hand corner, the
blue background made of denim with glittery stars. b. The
red chili peppers symbolise the Latino community in the
United States. Even if it is a commonplace to say that their
food is generally spicy from the use of chili peppers, it is
obviously evocative. c. On this poster/photomontage we
discover a new version of the Star Spangled Banner in which
the denim blue rectangle and the stars refer to cowboys and
American history. These are strong symbols of the Far West,
and more generally speaking, they symbolise
white culture. This is next to the red chili peppers, a strong
symbol of Latino culture. So, we can imagine that the text will
be about a mixing of cultures in the US, between whites and
Latinos. More simply, I expect to read about the Latino or
Hispanic population and maybe its immigration to the US,
including its future growth, decisive importance and
influence
