Filipino Traditional Houses Against Flat Roofed Modern Houses

Thesis Statement :
Although Modern House Design is more appealing to the majority of Filipinos nowadays, Filipino
Traditional Houses should still be preserved for it is cheaper in terms of materials' value, more aesthetically
appealing in terms of design and decoration, and is more sustainable.

I. Introduction:
Since architecture is already integrated into our culture, we deemed it necessary to know
which type of house is suitable for the consumers by analyzing and differentiating two
known types of house design in the Philippines.

II. Background:
Filipino traditional houses are not appreciated fully by the Filipino consumers; the aim is to
introduce this house to the Filipinos by showing its benefits and advantages.

III. Filipino traditional houses are better than flat roofed modern houses in terms of cost.
A. The materials are organic.
B. The materials are renewable.
C. The materials are readily available.

IV. Filipino traditional houses are better than flat roofed modern houses in terms
of aesthetics.
A. Aesthetically beautiful by simplicity.
B. Aesthetically beautiful by Rococo flair.

V. Filipino traditional houses are better than flat roofed modern houses in terms
of sustainability.
A. Sustainable by passive cooling.
B. Sustainable by natural lighting.
C. Sustainable by water management.
D. Sustainable by carbon footprint.

VI. Counterarguments
A. Flat roofs of Modern houses are more stable.
B. Flat roofs of Modern houses are more time efficient.
C. Flat roofs of Modern houses are more maintainable.

VII. Conclusion:
Filipino Traditional houses are better than Flat Roofed Modern houses. By using the Filipino
Traditional houses, we can express our concept of beauty which developed from our basic sensibilities. It is also
the more practical and more appropriate type of housing in our country since it was already proven and tested
even way before modern flat roofs were constructed. This type of housing is suitable in our country since it
reflects our style, culture, traditions, and all things seen around.
