Byron District 226 Student Learning Objective Framework
Title: Self Portrait Drawing
Content Area: Art & Design Grade Level: 9th-12th Interval of Instruction: semester Element Description Essential Question: What does the allowable baseline data tell me about my students strengths and needs? Baseline Data Sample of 26 (Introduction to 2D Art & Design) students Analysis Self portrait pre-drawing worth a total of 50 (no count) points Overall Score Range = 16% - 64% Based on vertical articulation, most students have some observational drawing skills that were acquired between 1-5 years prior. Only 42% of students had previous knowledge of facial proportions. Instruction on observational drawing, use of media, facial proportions, and concept will take place throughout the semester to help students develop necessary skills to succeed on the assessment. Essential Questions: What are the most important learning/skill(s) that I want my students to grow in by the end of the interval of instruction? How will I measure student growth? Which students growth will be measured over the instructional interval? Objective A sample of 26 Introduction to 2D Art & Design students will demonstrate Statement creative expression, media technique, and craftsmanship through the successful completion of a self-portrait drawing. Observational drawing skills; specifically in proportion of facial features, value/shading to achieve light source, mark-making to illustrate texture, composition, craftsmanship, and creative expression of face and background will be practiced over the course of the semester through formative and summative assessments (i.e. sketchbook assignment #1 facial features is highly emphasized throughout the semester) Student growth will be measured through use of an existing rubric, didactic assessments (observation/feedback through working progress), and formative sketchbook activities. Aligned Byron District 226 Power Standards #1-6 Standards Power Standard #1 (Creative Expression) The students will demonstrate creative expression through appropriate media. Sketchbook in-class activities and sketchbook assignments formative practice shading and texture techniques, control of media, and facial features and proportion. Other summative projects as applicable to the skills used for the Self Portrait diagnostic Self Portrait post-drawing summative cumulative final project Weight of Assessment is worth 80% of evaluation/summative rating Assessment Student 11 - 9th graders, 5 10th graders, 4 11th graders, 6 12th graders Population 17 females, 9 - males All students taking art for first time at the high school level 1 student has special needs 0 discipline actions have been taken with students in this class Free or reduced lunch status unknown Essential Question: Based on what I know about my students, where do I expect them to be by the end of the interval of instruction and how will they demonstrate their knowledge/skills? Target(s) All students will grow half the distance to 100% Strategies Diagnostic and formative assessments take place to assess each students level of understanding (pretest, sketchbook practice, and in-class activities) Provide constructive feedback after sketchbook assignments and during summative projects to help improve skills. Allow for revisions on formative assessments. Provide rubrics with summative projects Introduce content which addresses multiple learning styles (visual: ppt, posters, written notes on board, calendar, kinetic: act of art-making, tactile: using media, auditory: lecture/explanations of processes) Support Attendance to NAEA Convention in previous years to further knowledge of content area. Regular meetings with visual art and design colleagues to vertically align SLOs. Student 24/26 92% Growth Rating Excellent
