 IIM Kashipur's location at the foothills of the Himalayas is
unique in its beauty and serenity. We strive to be an
environment friendly campus and work towards contributing Board of Governors
to the community of Kashipur and the State of Uttarakhand.
We have a beautiful campus of over 200 acres, a few
kilometres away from the town centre. The new campus will
accommodate more than 500 students this year and
ultimately grow to welcome more than 1100 students in the
future.

Our thrust on having a diverse cross-section of students is

bearing fruit, and the latest class has over 15% female
students and represents 8 states of India. We launched our CHAIRMAN
Executive PG Programme in July 2013 and is currently run Shri Dhruv M Sawhney
from a hired campus in Dehradun. We launched our Chairman, Indian Institute of Management Kashipur
Executive Fellow Programme in May 2014 and in 2015, we and Chairman and Managing Director

Dear Friends,
I have the privilege of Chairing the Board of Governors of
the 13th Indian Institute of Management (IIM), situated
at Kashipur in the State of Uttarakhand. This is India's
first IIM outside the metropolitan cities; an exciting
journey for the Board of Governors, Director, Faculty and
Students. Classes started in a temporary campus in July
2011 with a batch of 37 students. The fifth batch of 120
students in 2017 graduated and the next batch will have
nearly 200. The IIM Kashipur team has mitigated the
infrastructure deficiencies of our location and has
produced a first class facility in our new campus. We are
thankful for the help and assistance given by the Central
and Uttarakhand Government, which we will continue to
need in good measure till we become self-sustaining. Our
faculty strength has risen to meet the increasing batch
size and we currently have 33 permanent faculty.

keeping with our mission centred on academic excellence, our
faculty is trained at Harvard Business School and other
institutes of repute.
Our campus on nearly 200 acres stands with its iconic buildings
and evocative presence that uniquely blends history, heritage
and modernity. Our new campus is inspired by Guru
Dronacharya's ashram which was believed to be here. The
archways in our buildings are derived from that of the Buddhist
Viharas. To expand our footprint and contribute to the
development of our home state Uttarakhand, we have started an
Executive Education Campus at Dehradun, and expect to start
building on the 5 acres donated by the Uttarakhand
Government.
Our flagship 2-year full time Post Graduate Programme in
Management (PGPM) is gaining in strength. The 2-year weekend
programme for working executives, Executive Post Graduate
Programme in Management (EPGPM), is now being offered at
Dehradun from July 2016 to widen its reach. Our Executive
Fellow Programme launched in 2014, for senior executives
interested in acquiring a doctoral degree while capitalizing on
their experience and expertise, is very much in demand. Our
Full-time Fellow (Doctoral) program has been running for 2 years
now. Our executive education outreach is now driven through
online programmes which are well subscribed. A small
beginning has been made through certificate programmes
delivered by our faculty at Dubai.
Our interaction with the industry happens through annual events
and conclaves. To bring about the industry-academia synergy,
many of our courses are run with the help of industry managers.
Our exchange programme for students and faculty with ESDES
Lyon Business School and AIT Bangkok are active over the past
years. This year we have expanded our footprint with two more
business schools in Europe - ALBA Graduate Business School,
Athens, Greece and Department of Business and Management,
Director's Aalborg University, Denmark. We are looking further afield to
start exchange programmes with other business schools across

IIM Kashipurs Fellow Programme in Management
(FPM) is a full time residential doctoral programme.
The main objective of the programme is to provide
scholars with necessary skills to identify and research
complex issues in the field of management. FPM seeks
candidates with outstanding academic backgrounds,
intellectual curiosity and discipline needed to make
scholarly contribution. The programme is committed
to train individuals to excel in their area of research
through publication of quality work of international
standard. The Programme requires dedicated efforts
of four to five years two years Course Work followed
by two to three years of Thesis Work.

All FPM Scholars are given fellowship and other

financial support. Institute provides all kind of the
infrastructural support (library, on-line journals,
database and other learning resources) required to

A.V. Raman
Assistant Professor
OB & HR
Prof. AV. Raman obtained his PhD from the
University of Warwick UK in 2013 specializing in
the sociology of work and organizations and
Industrial Relations. Before his PhD, he had
completed his MPhil specializing in the same
domain with distinction; which was preceded by a
First class MA in Sociology from the University of
Hyderabad India. His doctoral ethnographic study
of a commercial vehicle manufacturing plant of one
of India's largest automotive firms examined the
complex implications arising out of the imposition
of lean manufacturing templates in a different
geographical and cultural context such as India. He
has taught doctoral and post- graduate students at
XLRI Jamshedpur India from 2013 to 2016. His
current and future research interests center around:
- the implementation, experience and denouement
of lean manufacturing for both managers and
workers; trade union agency, leadership and
mobilization and understanding the management
labor dynamics in the manufacturing industry in
India; HRM strategies and policies and their impact
on Managerial sense making, understanding the
ITES industry and its labour process and
employment dynamics.

Economics
Prof. Abhradeep Maiti is associated with
the Economics area at IIM Kashipur where
he teaches courses on Microeconomics and
Econometrics. His research interests
include Applied Microeconomics and
Applied Econometrics. Some of his
research works involved estimation of labor
demand, investigation of the effects of
intervention on early childhood outcomes,
estimating the effects of government
policies on labor market outcomes, and
figuring out the effects of technology on
society. His works have been published in
various peer-reviewed journals such as
Journal of Regional Science, International
Review of Law and Economics, Journal of
Business and Economics Perspectives, and
World Cultures. Prof Maiti obtained his
Master's degree in Economics from the
University of Oklahoma, USA and PhD in
Economics from Middle Tennessee State
University, USA. Prior to joining IIM
Kashipur, he briefly worked as a Senior
Economist for an analytics firm. He is also
involved in corporate training and
consultancy works.

Delhi. He has a number of national and

has conducted MDPs for prestigious
organisation like EIL, BHEL and NTPC.

member of the Plan Committee on Industries
for 11th 5-year plan of Kerala State Planning
Board. He is currently member of the State

years in the steel and engineering industry

the school. Dr. Sinha has been trained as

Dr. Kampan Mukherjee is Professor of Operations
Management & Decision Sciences. Currently, he is Dean
(Planning and Development) and Chairperson, Center of
Excellence of Sustainability in IIM Kashipur. He earned
his PhD from Moscow Institute of Economics and
Statistics as a government sponsored research scholar in
1988 and subsequently was associated with LAMSADE,
University Paris Dauphine as Senior Visiting Fellow of
Government of France in 1998.
As an established management educator with rich
experience of teaching (22 years as Professor) Dr.
Mukherjee established the Department of Management
Studies and became university Dean (Academics) in
Indian School of Mines (converted to IIT in 2015) before
joining IIM Kashipur in 2014. His accomplishment in
teaching is well reflected by overseas Visiting
Professorship in European countries (France, Germany,
Austria, The Netherlands and Finland, in particular),
Australia and Dubai. He was also visiting Professor for
teaching courses in PGP programs of XLRI Jamshedpur
and IIM Shillong.
He published research papers in reputed journals like
IJPE, EJOR, Omega, CEJOR, Technology Analysis and
Strategic Management etc. With Supply Chain
Management and Sustainability as current areas of
interest, Prof Mukherjee pioneered research activities in
India on management of Remanufacturing/ Reverse
Logistics.
He was conferred Life Time Achievement award in
Operations Management by Society of Operations
Management in 2012. He was also extensively involved
in industrial consultancies including executive training

Dr. Kumkum Bharti holds a Doctorate
Degree in Marketing from Indian Institute of
Technology Roorkee, Uttarakhand. She has
previously taught in National Institute of
Technology Kurukshetra, Haryana and
FORE School of Management, New Delhi.
Her area of interest includes the study of
poor consumers, often called as Bottom (or
Base) of the Pyramid (BOP), Service
dominant (S-D) logic, co-creation, and
qualitative research in marketing. Her work
has been published in various journals and
conferences such as Marketing Intelligence
and Planning, International Journal of
Market Research, Procedia, International
Journal of Business and Emerging Markets,
etc. She has won Noel Doerr Gold Medal for
the best paper presented in the 71st Sugar
Technology Association of India (STAI),

Dr. Kunal is working as Assistant Professor
(Finance) at IIM Kashipur. He is expert of firm
financing and has defended his Ph.D. thesis
in the area of finance at Deaprtment of
Industrial and Management Engineering, IIT
Kanpur. His Ph.D. thesis deals with empirical
investigation of effect of selective
intervention policy towards Foreign Direct
Investment (FDI) in Indian economy at micro,
meso and macro level. For his doctoral
research work, he has been awarded "Best
Research Paper Award" at IIMA Doctoral
Colloquium 2013 organized by Indian
Institute of Management Ahmadabad, India.
Beside his dissertation, he has done extensive
work on private equity investment in India and
financing problems with MSME, during his
stay at IIT Kanpur. He has successfully
completed Master Teacher Programme at
prestigious Indian School of Business,
Hyderabad.
He has been awarded gold medal for securing

Dr. Nitin Singh holds 17 years of experience
spanning academics and industry. Currently,
he is an Associate Professor at IIM Kashipur.
He earned the Fellow Program in
Management from IIM Bangalore and has
worked for KPMG, Hexaware and Hindustan
Petroleum Corp Ltd during his stint in
consulting for 10 years. He began his career
post PhD at IIM Indore as Assistant
Professor in Operations Management. He
worked there for five years before moving on
to consulting role in industry. During the
course of his career, Nitin has led projects
relating to business analytics, forensics, Big
Data and other projects with quant
component. Nitin has also contributed
actively in academic research and his
technical papers have appeared at

Blackwell, Elsevier, Atlantis, and
Inderscience. His consulting experience has

on sustainable consumption behavior of
individuals. He is particularly interested in

variables, both internal and external.
Another strand of research analyzes
positives and negatives of patient
empowerment on the service authenticity
of physicians. His current and future
research interest targets the analysis of the
marketing consequences of the Internet
and digital media on industries and
markets. He is also on the board of a startup
in the internet space as a senior advisor.

Nandita Roy did her PhD on Video Game
Narratives from Jadavpur University. She has
worked extensively and is interested in the
field of gender studies, new media and
communication, Game studies, and literary
theory.
Ms. Roy has worked with National
Geographic Channel, India supervising a
team comprising of three production houses
in Calcutta and one in Bombay. She handled
content editing of shows telecast in National
Geographic Channel and Fox Telivision, and
was creative head of dubbing operations in
West Bengal. She also taught at the National
University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata,
India. She has recently completed her
doctoral studies jointly at the Department of
Media and Communication, University of
Leuphana, Germany and the Department of
English, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India.
She worked on a project entitled 'The Gender
Implications of the National Knowledge
Commission Recommendations'. She worked
with UNICEF on policy documents and
reports on Education.
Ms. Roy directed, cinematographed and
edited, Voices of Women from Mizoram, a

Mizoram, India, 2011. The documentary was

Exchange
Programme
IIM Kashipur has entered into collaboration with ALBA
Greece and International Business Center, Aalborg
University, Denmark recently in February 2017. This has
strengthened the international reach of institute. The
institute has been sending its students on exchange
programmes every year to ESDES Lyon (France), AIT
Bangkok and FPT Vietnam in the past years. For the year
2017-18, there is a 25% increase in number of students
going for exchange programmes including the new
additions of Denmark and Greece. IIM Kashipur will also
be hosting a number of students as a part of exchange
program from its partner institutes in the academic year
2017-18.
The idea of sending students on exchange programmes
is to encourage academic and cultural exchange through
mutual assistance in areas of education and research. As
per MoUs, apart from student exchange, there are also
bright prospects for Faculty Exchange and Joint
Research activities.

Convocation
2017
Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (IIM Kashipur) held its
fifth convocation on Saturday, 25th March, 2017. The convocation
ceremony felicitated the fifth outgoing batch of the Post Graduate
Programme (PGP) 2015-17 and the second outgoing batch of
Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) 2014-16. The
institute organized its fifth convocation in the new campus at
Kundeshwari, Kashipur, Uttarakhand. The convocation marked the
Official Inauguration of the 200 acre state of the art new campus.

Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Human Resources Development
graced the event with his presence as chief guest of the
Convocation. In his address at the commencement ceremony, he
congratulated the students of IIM Kashipur for their
accomplishment and informed about his beliefs of having quality
education for all. He mentioned about his beliefs that IIMs must
have full autonomy and the MHRD Ministrys trust on the good
institution and faculty of the IIMs. In fact, the ministry has the
intent to grant full autonomy to the IIMs and is ready to have a policy
of Fund and Forget for IIMs. Apart from this, Mr. Javadekar called
upon the cause for HEFA (Higher Education Finance Agency) and
stressed upon the need for institutions to upgrade its research
infrastructure and relevant research work.
Mr. Dhruv Sawhney, the Chairman of the Board of Governers, IIM
Kashipur addressed the celebrated gathering, in which he
emphasized on the role which will be played by the graduating
students as future managers and how the students are going to be
the front runners in leading the growth of sustainable development
across not just an organization or India but the Globe as well.
He also mentioned to the students to work with a notion of
remembering that they should not work with goals of just personal
gains but also remember their roots and working with the intention
of benefitting the society as well.
It was followed by a speech given by Dr. Gautam Sinha, Director, IIM
Kashipur, in which he gave a detailed account of all the illustrious
activities that took place in the academic year 2016-17. In his
speech, Dr. Sinha invoked the students to keep themselves abreast
with the rapid technological and societal changes occurring
worldwide and how those who are fast at adapting to changes will be
able to outpace their counterparts. He also mentioned about how
the world of new and efficient technologies such as Internet of
Things, Machine Learning, Big Data will change the way things have
been done till now by bringing a radical change of Automation
across industries. The students were then presented Diploma in
Post Graduate and Executive Post Graduate Programme.
Mr. Addugula Srinath Reddy won the gold medal for his superior
academic performance over the two year course. Mr. Aditya
Pachvariya bagged the silver medal and Mr. Vaibhav Sharma won the
bronze medal. Mr. Anubhav Mukherjee was awarded the Gold medal
for all round achievement.
This was followed by the felicitation of the students of the executive
Post Graduate Programme. Mr. Harsh Raj bagged the Gold Medal for
his superior academic performance over the two years and Mr. Samir
Kumar Mishra bagged the silver Medal.
At the pre-convocation, the evening commenced with cultural
programme by Spic Macay. Bhutte Khan and Troupe from Barmer,
Rajasthan, mesmerized the audience with their scintillating music
and dance performance. Also, the fourth edition of the annual
college magazine Revista was launched by Mr. Dhruv Sawhney
(Chairman, Board of Governors of IIM Kashipur) along with
Dr. Gautam Sinha (Director-IIM Kashipur). The event also marked
distribution of World Bank Certification to the successful
candidates of IIM Kashipur who completed Green Management
Course. There was also the launch of the book Education Policy
(Vol II) by Prof. Baharul Islam and Anas Raushan.

Committees
Academic Committee
Academic committee plays a prominent role in representing
the students and works towards ensuring that students' interest
and queries are raised with the concerned authorities.
We also serve as a vital link between the student body and the
faculty at IIM Kashipur. The committee contributes towards
smooth functioning of the academic system and ensures timely
resolution of all relevant issues raised by the student
community. Academic committee takes up the responsibility of
imbibing best practices so that both the present and future
batches can have a better academic system in place. Academic
committee also holds the responsibility for practices like
holding academic award functions to honour students for
academic excellence. Furthermore, Academic Committee
works on co-ordinating with various clubs / committees to
conduct knowledge sessions and open-houses so as to achieve
academic objectives relevant to students.
Alumni Relations Committee
The Alumni Relations Committee at IIM Kashipur has been set
up with an intent to strengthen the relationships between
Alumni, Students, Faculty and Staff. The committee acts as a
platform to keep the Alumni updated about the current
happenings in the college, interact and involve them in various
activities and help the students leverage the industry exposure
and experience gained by our Alumni by conducting knowledge
sharing interactive sessions.
City wise Alumni Meets have been conducted in Mumbai,
Bangalore and Delhi by the Committee which have witnessed
tremendous energy and response. Going forward the
committee plans to form an Alumni Association and hold
election for the same and set up an alumni portal to achieve
stronger interaction among the Alumni and with the Student
community.

Corporate Relations Cell
The Corporate Relations Cell (CRC) is the official link between
IIM Kashipur and the corporate world for all non-placement
activities. CRC facilitates student interaction with the industry
by opening up channels for communication. Our primary focus
is to bridge the expectation gap that exists between industry
and the student community.
We achieve this by inviting industry leaders for guest lectures
that culminate in interesting discussions between the students
and magnates across a range of business topics. We also focus
on live projects that give students hands on experience as to
what the industry is and needs before they actually go there and
fight it out. Also on the agenda is to conduct workshops that
add to the creative and critical thinking of the students.
This year we have successfully invited industry veterans like
Mr. Vinod Sawhny (CEO Reliance Communications), Mr. Rana
Som (Advisor Essar, ex Chairman and MD NMDC),
Mr. Devanshu Bhatia (CRO, India Today Group), Ms. Kamal
Bajwa (CCOO, Tata Sky Limited), Mr. Gunjan Srivastava (MD,
CEO Bosch Siemens) amongst many others.
Cultural Committee
To make sure that students of the institute get an all-round
edge in their personality, Cultural Committee organizes a host
of activities. Be it displaying their talents through events like
Kacofonia or celebrating events like Independence Day, Matki
Phod, Agnitraya etc., the committee makes sure that students
participate heavily in everything. The College's cultural
contingent also represents the institute in various national level
cultural festivals.
Mess Committee
Mess Committee at IIM Kashipur is run by the students, for the
students. It is an independent, autonomous, not for profit
organization. Each day the mess caters to 400 plus students and
faculty and takes pride in providing healthy, nutritious and delicious
food to students in a timely manner overcoming the challenges

QUEST - The Quiz Club
Quest the quizzing club of IIM
Kashipur aims to actively nurture
quizzing culture at the institute. The
club acts as a forum for the student

and thinking out-of-the-box. Moreover,
the fun activities conducted by the quiz
club provide an essential breather to

 Lit Fest
This year's literary festival was based on the theme
'Regional language dying a slow death'. It was hosted by
India's two young and leading writers, Mr. Ayan Pal and
Mr. Siddharth Sharma. Both of them have written over a
dozen books and are a part of various committees that
conducts workshops and seminars in India's leading
business colleges.

TEDxIIMKashipur is an ongoing journey filled with enriching

experience; enthralling and taking us to newer realms. Our
journey started in 2014 with a simple idea, an idea to conduct
the event for the students of IIM Kashipur with the theme Ideas
in Action, that changed our way of thinking and freed our
minds. It continued in 2015 also based on the theme Actions
Bring Change. Progressing in the journey of evolution, the third
