1 Important Notes for All Applicants

A. Applications for admission to Graduate School are submitted via online admission application only.

B. Applicants should apply for admission only once during application periods.

C. Any modification to desired majors or cancellations are not accepted after completing the online admission
application.
Please ask the relevant department for details concerning information on your major.

D. Applicants should check the notice on the website(http://ipsi.cnu.ac.kr) for taking procedures. The applicants will take full
responsibility for any disadvantages arising from unconfirmed information.
Information such as important notes, timeline, and tuition fees will not be given individually.

E. All documents should be written in English or Korean. If they are in any other language, you must submit
additional notarized/certified translation(in English or Korean) completed by a public notary in the country where
the document is originally produced.

F. Be sure to make and keep photocopies of all completed forms. Submitted documents become the property
of CNU and will not be returned to the applicants. The application fee is non-refundable. And if any of
submitted materials contain false information or any applicant obtains approval of admission through unfair
way, his/her admission will be rescinded.

G. Applicants who completed application forms should submit their application materials. They will only be
accepted if the documents arrive well before the designated date : 2017. 5. 9. 18:00pm.

H. Please verify the accuracy of the personal information on the required form as the applicant will take
fully responsibility for errors of information and contact interruption. Admission will be cancelled if there
are any false statements in the submitted documents or if applicant's academic performance is deemed
unsatisfactory.

I. Applicants have to report in advance of the Evaluation of Applicants Academic Proficiency. If it is not possible
for a *force majeure reason, the reason is accepted, a portion of the application fee will be refunded.
(However, the application fee will not be refunded if the applicant was absent due to personal circumstances,
etc.)
* Force majeure reason : natural disasters, hospitalization due to illness of the accident, etc.

J. Applicants will not be accepted only if he/she is considered inappropriate even though the number of
enrolled students in the department is not at the maximum.

K. Successful candidates should actively cooperate in getting a Verification of Academic Record form. If not, it is
possible to have his/her admission cancelled. The admissions staff reserves the right to require additional
documents from the applicant to verify the authenticity of submitted materials.

L. Admitted students may take procedures for paying tuition fee by the deadline and fulfilling all the procedures for
matriculation (registration, submission of necessary documents after entering Korea, etc.)

5 Eligibility Requirements

A. Language Requirements (One of criteria below should be meet.)

1) Korean : Level 4 or higher on the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)


2) English :
- Minimum score of 530 (paper-based), 197 (computer-based), 71 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a
Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Minimum score of 600 or higher on the test of Test of English Proficiency developed by Seoul National
University (TEPS)
- Minimum score of 700 or higher on the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
- Minimum score of 5.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Level B2 or higher on the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR)
3) Confirmation letter for Research Capability[Form4]
If applicants submit a Confirmation Letter for Research Capability from a CNU advisor, they must complete Level
4 or higher on TOPIK, or Minimum score of 530 (paper-based), 197 (computer-based), 71 (internet-based) on

TOEFL or Minimum score of 600 or higher on TEPS or Minimum score of 700 or higher on TOEIC or Minimum
score of 5.5 or higher on IELTS, or Level B2 or higher on CEFR(English) before thesis evaluation for graduation.

Exception for language requirements : Applicants from nations where they regards English as an official

language (Applicants must submit other verification documents and the scholarship can be granted only
when submitting any language test certification.)
Some departments require applicants of a specific score of TOPIK for graduation. Contact the relevant

departments and check this before admission.


In the case of lecture-oriented majors, most lectures are given in Korean. For more information, you should

contact the relevant department.

B. Basic Requirements

1) Foreign students whose parents are both foreigners, or


2) Overseas Korean residents and foreign students who have completed their entire elementary, junior, high school
and undergraduate education outside of Korea, or
3) North Korean Defectors

C. Academic Qualifications

1. Master's Degree Program : A student holding a bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree from an
accredited four-year university
2. Doctoral Degree Program : A student holding a master's degree or an equivalent degree from an accredited
graduate school
3. Integrated Masters and Doctoral Degree Program : A student holding a bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree
from an accredited four-year university

6 Application Period

C. Online Application Process


1) Sign up and log in to the online application program(UWAY APPLY) via the CNU admissions website.

2) Check the important notes for all applicants. Follow the instructions carefully and type in all the required

information for each step of the online application.

3) Fill out the application form according to the specifications in the section titled (Apply).

4) The application fee ( 50,000 or 50 USD) must be paid online with this portion of the application.

5) After paying the fee, print out online the letter cover, application form, and the other forms. Fill out the other forms

for submission.

6) Submit the application form and required documents together.

Applicants must upload a recent photograph(3.54.5cm) via the on-line application.

- If not available, print out an application form and attach on the form directly.

Applicants are responsible for any disadvantages if there are any false statements in the application forms.

(a) For applicants who graduated from a foreign university : a certificate of bachelor's or master's degree and

an official transcript

(b) For applicant from nations regarding English as an official language : a diploma and an official transcript

from middle school or high school

If you are relevant to section (b), you should submit all required documents of both (a) and (b) section, and you

can apply for admission without any language proficiency test certificate.

4) Method of verification

- Obtaining certificates of your educational background notarized by the Korean embassy/consul in your

country (Not accepted by signatories the Apostille Convention)

5) For applicants who don't submit verified educational documents, his/her admission will be rescinded.

D. A Confirmation Letter for Prearranged Scholarship Grant, if relevant

1) Applicant, whose prospective academic professor is a financial supporter and is going to provide some money for

research project, must submit a Confirmation Letter for Prearranged Scholarship Grant.

2) Required documents : professor's affidavit of support [CNU Form 5], professor's employment certificate, a

Confirmation Letter for Prearranged Scholarship Grant from dean or president of CNU

A proof of research project stating budget(including labor cost) is additionally required.

This form must contain official seal of dean or president of CNU.

What is an Apostille?

Since July 14, 2007, the Republic of Korea has been part of the 1961 Hague Convention abolishing the

Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. The Convention provides for the simplified

certification of public (including notarized) documents to be used in countries that have joined the convention.

The Apostille ensures that public documents issued in one signatory country will be recognized as valid

in another signatory country.

NOTE: Newly admitted students from countries which are signatories to the convention must meet the

following requirements:

Official certificates (transcripts, diplomas, etc.) from public schools or institutions should be submitted

with the attachment of Apostille.

Official certificates (transcripts, diplomas, etc.) from private schools or institutions, however, should be

officially notarized by a notary, agency or any other authority competent under the law of the country of

origin of the certificates, and then, should be submitted with the attachment of Apostille.

11 Scholarships

A. Scholarships(Student Affairs Office)

Studio : Rooms are opposite from the hallway and are fully equipped with individual bathrooms and
toilet room.

Hallway : Rooms are arranged with hallways as the center, bathroom/shower facility shared.

13 Insurance

A. Mandatory Insurance

1) Every international students must have insurance according to the policy of Korean government.
Type (Must have either (1) or (2).)

(1) (Insurance for international students by Office of International Affairs in CNU)

(2)(National health care insurance by Korean National Health Insurance Service)

2) Someone without any health care insurances can take disadvantages on scholarships or programs by Office of

International Affairs in CNU.

3) Someone without any health care insurances cannot register classes when the semester starts.

1) Term of payment : Jul. 11. (Tue) 2017 ~ Jul. 14. (Fri)

2) Payment in Korea

- Location : Banks designated by CNU (KEB Hana Bank, Woori Bank or Nonghyup)

- Method of payment : Transferring money by wire transfer or going to the bank in person after printing tuition

bill

- Time available : From 9:00am to 4:00pm, bank business hours in Korea.

- Account numbers are distinguishable for each person and the depositor is not need to be same as

successful applicant.

3) Transfer from overseas


- Location : Any overseas bank

- Method of payment : Transfer overseas to the account of CNU ( The account number will be announced

later.)

Personal information of depositor must be sent to grad@cnu.ac.kr after transferring abroad, and the name

of depositor must be same as that of applicant.

- Divided payments are not available if transferring money overseas.

Submit your payment bill to the bank even if the amount of tuition fee is0(getting full scholarship), or else,

you will not be registered at CNU.

4) Bill of tuition payment

- The exact amount of tuition fee will be stated on the bill.

- The bill of tuition payment can be printed from Jul. 7, 2017.
