ASSIGNMENT

Macroeconomic Performance from 2010 to 2016 of the following countries:

Philippines
Brazil
Hungary
Qatar
Poland
Chile

Reason for choosing these countries

The reason why I choose these countries is because they are considered developing
economies according to the International Monetary Funds World Economic Outlook Report,
April 2015 wherein Philippines is also one of them. I think that it would be good to compare our
country to its fellow developing countries in terms of how the economy works as a whole.

The graph shows the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant prices based on the 2010 US$ of
the six countries. It can be seen that Brazil has the highest GDP (constant 2010 US$) among these
countries from 2010 to 2016. Next is Poland yet it still have a higher gap to Brazil. Philippines and
Chile have a closer GDP where Chile is higher than Philippines from 2010 to 2014 but Philippines
took the spot from Chile in 2015 to 2016. The lowest among these countries are Hungary and
Qatar. It is noticeable from the graph that their GDP is close to each other.

The graph above shows the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in constant prices based on
2010 US $ from 2010 to 2016. It shows that Qatar has the highest GDP per capita among these
countries. Brazil, Hungary, Poland and Chiles GDP per capita is not far from each other. And,
Philippines has the lowest GDP per capita.

The graph above shows the unemployment rate of the six countries from 2010 to 2016. From 2010
to 2012, Hungary has the highest unemployment rate among these countries. However, its
unemployment rate declines on 2013 making the Poland to have the highest rate for that year
although their gap is so close. Poland still takes the highest unemployment rate for 2014 as the rate
for Hungary continues to decline. In 2015, Polands unemployment rate also declines while Brazil
increases making the country to have the highest unemployment rate for the year. Brazil still has
highest unemployment rate as it soars high in 2016. In contrast, Qatar has the lowest
unemployment rate not just in these countries but also in the world. Most people from Qatar work
in industry, notably gas and oil production, which accounts for more than 50 percent of GDP.

The graph above shows the inflation rate based on the annual consumer prices from 2010 to 2016.
Brazil has the highest inflation rate from 2010 to 2011. Qatar has a negative inflation rate for 2010
and becomes positive in 2011. As Brazil declines, Hungary increases making it the highest spot in
2012. However, Hungary declines while Brazil still increases taking the highest spot again for
2013 and 2014. Hungary is the lowest in 2014 as it have a negative inflation rate. In 2015, Brazil
continues to increase while the Poland becomes the lowest. Brazil is still the highest in 2016
although its inflation decreases and Poland as the lowest.

The graph above shows the poverty headcount ratio at $1.90 a day based on 2011 PPP. This graph
only shows available data from The World Bank. For 2010, between Hungary and Poland, the
former has lower poverty rate. In 2011 to 2014, Brazil has the highest poverty rate and Poland as
lowest except for 2012 as the Philippines has the highest poverty rate. As shown above, no
information is available for Qatar because poverty is believed to be virtually non-existent.

The graph above shows the scores of this six countries in the Environmental Performance Index
released in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016. For 2010, Chile got the highest score among these countries
while Qatar is the lowest. Poland becomes the highest while Qatar still is the lowest for 2012.
Hungary got the highest score in 2014 while Philippines is the lowest. And for 2016, Hungary is
still highest while Qatar got the lowest again.

The graph above shows the balance of trade from 2010 to 2016. Among this six countries, Qatar
has the most favorable balance from 2010 to 2015. Its balance is continuously increasing from
2010 to 2013 but starts to decline in 2014. In 2010 to 2012, Poland has the most unfavorable
balance. Brazil becomes the country with most unfavorable balance in 2013 to 2014. And for 2015
to 2016, Philippines records the most unfavorable balance. Brazils balance of trade soars high in
2016 and has the most favorable balance.
