DOMAIN E ARTIFACTS
This domain seems to go hand in hand with Domain D. The first artifact that comes to
mind when it comes to creating and maintaining effective environments for student learning is
the continuing education I have received called Love and Logic. These sessions were put
together by Legacy High School administration during our professional development periods.
We attended at least 7 Love and Logic sessions during the 2016-17 school year for an hour a
session. These sessions gave us skills to respect all students, establish a safe learning
respectful and positive way, and how to appreciate our students and their history. This teaching
has been hugely helpful in my classroom as it gave me a more positive set of tools to try to
address classroom concerns. My population of students tend to have repetitive concerns when it
comes to behaviors but now, in my third year, I am having significantly fewer incidents and I
University as my second artifact. In this class, I learned a great deal about the importance of
properly allocating time during instruction to minimize boredom and misbehaviors and
maximize the time spent learning. I received numerous suggestions on how to establish solid
classroom rules as well as routine so that students know what is expected of them at all times and
can transition from one activity to the next with the fewest infractions possible. I have begun
putting many of these suggestions to practice in my classroom and have noticed a great

improvement in student learning, student behaviors, and much less time spent getting students
back on task. I will continue to implement more of the suggestions I learned in class and update
my artifacts as applicable.
The last artifact I would like to submit is an article review. I read a very interesting article
on the correlation between teacher burnout and classroom management. The paper found a
correlation with perceived self-efficacy and a reduction in burnout in secondary teachers. I can
definitely understand the findings of this study. When I feel like Im doing a good job in my
classroom, I feel good about my job. On the other hand, if my students do not appear to have
respect for me and they do not follow the rules, I cant help but feel like it is something that I am
failing at and wonder if teaching is the job for me. The longer I teach, the more I understand why
other teachers will say that content is only about 20% of teaching. The rest is patience, classroom
management, and documentation. This study supports that philosophy. I hope I can use this
artifact to remind me that there are options to improve my abilities in management as well as
remind me that there will be days that the students misbehave but that does not make me a poor
teacher.
