EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION
AND THE RITE OF MARRIAGE
Commentator (Fodin): Christ once said: When two are gathered in My
name, I shall be in the midst. These words of the Lord are most deeply felt
and revered on special occasions such as this. This afternoon, we are
gathered with much rejoicing and thanksgiving to witness Ivan and Sheena
pledge their love and commitment to each other before God and His people.
As they enter this phase in their lives, we are invited to lift them up to the Lord
daily, that each day may be full of experiences of faithfulness, hope and love.
Let us now welcome Ivan and Sheena together with their parents and the
whole entourage as we celebrate this feast of love and thanksgiving.
THE BRIDAL PROCESSION
Fodin: Please all stand as we begin the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
INTRODUCTORY RITE
Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Priest: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, and the

the presence of God, our Father, you will establish with each other a

Priest: Now, my brothers and sisters, coming together as Gods family, with
confidence, let us call to mind our sins and ask for the Fathers forgiveness
for He is full of compassion and love.

Father, you have made the bond of marriage a holy mystery, a symbol of
Christs love for his Church. Hear our prayers for IVAN and SHEENA. With
faith in You and in each other, they pledge their love today. May their lives
always bear witness to the reality of that love. We ask this through our Lord
Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING
Christine:
A reading from the Book of Genesis [Genesis 2:18-24]
God said: It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable partner
for him. So the Lord God formed out of the ground various wild animals and
various birds of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would
call them; Whatever the man called each of them would be its name. The
man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of the air, and all the wild
animals; but none proved to be the suitable partner for the man.
So the Lord God cast a deep sleep on the man, and while he was asleep, he
took out one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. The Lord God then
built up into a woman the rib that He had taken from the man. When He
brought her to the man, the man said:
This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be
called woman, for out of her man this one has been taken.

MARRIAGE RITES
Fodin: Please remain seated as IVAN and SHEENA profess their Marriage
Vows. (Requesting the couple to stand.)
May we request the parents of the bride and groom and the principal
sponsors to approach the sanctuary and stand at the back of the couple to
bear witness of their union.
Priest: Dearly beloved IVAN and SHEENA, you are here today to seal your
love with an eternal bond before the church. I assure you of the prayers of our
community that God may pour His abundant blessings on your love and help
you to carry out the duties of the married state. And you, dear brothers and
sisters, May I ask you to help them with your prayers and accept them as new
couple in our Christian community.
SCRUTINY
Priest: IVAN and SHEENA, may I now ask you to answer truthfully the
following questions:
Priest: SHEENA, did you come here of your own free will to bind yourself
forever in the love and service of your husband?
Sheena: Yes, Father.

God will give you?

please join your right hands and express your intention before God and his

according to the rite of our Holy Mother, the Church?

CONFIRMATION OF THE MARRIAGE BOND
Priest: IVAN and SHEENA, you have declared your consent before the
church. May the Lord strengthen your vows and fill you both with His
blessings. And I, by the authority of the Church, calling on all those present
here as witnesses, confirm and bless the bond of the marriage which you
have contracted. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy

BLESSING OF THE ARRHAE
Fodin: May we request the arrhae, ring and bible bearers, to please come
forward. Then, Best Man and Maid of Honor will stand at the right side of the
priest.
Priest: IVAN and SHEENA, we shall now bless your arrhae, rings and bible.
Our help is in the name of the Lord.
Priest: Bless O Lord, your children, IVAN and SHEENA, with sufficiency of
material possessions which these arrhae symbolizes so that they may use
them to attain eternal life through Christ our Lord.

BLESSING OF THE RINGS
Priest: Bless O Lord, these rings, symbols of faithfulness and unending love
so that your children, IVAN and SHEENA, may live long in mutual love and
unbroken loyalty through Christ our Lord.

BLESSING OF THE BIBLE
Priest: Bless O Lord, this bible which contains your message of love and
salvation. Grant that this may serve as the foundation of new life of IVAN and
SHEENA. May it be source of strength, inspiration and guidance for them and
help them anchor their marriage on your word. All these we ask through
Jesus Christ our Lord.

GIVING OF THE RINGS, ARRHAE AND BIBLE
Priest: The wedding ring is the outward and visible sign of a spiritual bond
which unites two loyal hearts. It is a seal of the vows which you, IVAN and
SHEENA have made. Now give these rings to each other.
Ivan: SHEENA, wear this ring as a sign of my love and loyalty to you. In the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Sheena: IVAN, wear this ring as a sign of my love and loyalty to you. In the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Priest: Now, IVAN, give this arrhae to SHEENA.
[The groom now takes the arrhae in both hands; the bride places her cupped
hands under those of the groom. The groom lets them fall into her hands,
saying after the priest.]
Ivan: SHEENA, I will never forsake you. I hand these arrhae as a pledge of
my dedication to you and our childrens welfare. In the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Sheena: And I thank you, IVAN and accept these arrhae with a grateful heart.
With a trusting spirit, I place myself in your care. I, in turn, want to stand by
you and give my care in all your concern. In the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Priest: IVAN and SHEENA, accept this Holy Bible, the Living Word of God.
May His words be a source of guidance, strength and wisdom as you live
together in life.
Ivan & Sheena: We accept Gods Word with humility and fervent prayer that
may God reign in our married life, in the family we will raise and in the home
we will build together.
Priest: With gratitude to the Almighty, let us welcome, IVAN and SHEENA,
into their new life as husband and wife. Let us give them a joyful applause.

LAYING OF VEIL AND CORD
Fodin: May we ask the Veil Sponsors, MR. and MRS. VIDAURE, to offer the
symbol of purity.
Fodin: (while laying of veil) IVAN and SHEENA, this veil symbolizes our
prayer for holiness in your life. May you be guided to love and care for each

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
Priest: Dearly beloved, let us pray for the Church and for our newly wedded
couple whose marriage reflects their union with Christ. In every petition, we
say:
Lord, keep us in your love.

1. For all our parents who selflessly brought us to be in this world with
unconditional love and support and guidance that they may continue to be
instruments of Gods loving care to the members of their family. Let us pray
to the Lord. (response)
2. For all the sponsors and witnesses who blessed this union with prayers,
that they may be showered with good health, peace of mind, and harmony
in their family. Let us pray to the Lord. (response)
3. For all those who are here, that we may all continue to share in the joy and
sorrows of IVAN and SHEENA. Let us pray to the Lord. (response)
4. For IVAN and SHEENA, now starting their life together, that they may have
divine assistance in every moment and constant support of family and

5. That their hearts may be united forever protect them from the guiles of

Priest: Almighty, eternal God, look down with favor upon your servants. Grant
that they may remain faithful to You and to one another. And at the end of a
long and well-spent life, reward them with eternal happiness together with

THE NUPTIAL BLESSING
Priest: My dear friends, let us turn to the Lord and pray that He will bless with
His grace IVAN, now married in Christ to SHEENA and that He will unite in
love the coup He has joined in this holy bond.
[All pray in silence for a while. Then the priest, with hands extended over the
bride and the groom continues]
Priest: Father, by your power You have made everything out of nothing. In
the beginning You created the universe and made mankind in Your own
likeness. You gave man the constant help of woman so that man and woman
should no longer be two, but one flesh, and You teach us that what You have
united may never be divided.
Father, You have made the union of man and wife so holy a mystery that it
symbolizes the marriage of Christ and His Church. Father, by Your plan, man
and woman are united and married life has been established as the one
blessing that was not forfeited by original sin or washed away in the flood.
Look with love upon this woman, Your daughter, now joined to her husband in
marriage. She asks Your blessing. Give her the grace of love and peace. May
she always follow the example of the holy women whose praises are sung in
the scriptures. May her husband put his trust in her and recognize that she is
the equal and the heir with him to the life of grace. May he always hone her
and love her as Christ loves his bride, the Church.
Father, keep them always true to Your commandments. Keep them faithful in
marriage and let them be living examples of Christian life. Give them the
strength which comes from the gospel so that they may be witnesses of
Christ to others. Bless them with children and help them to be good parents.
