Whats new?

Aligned with international standards work

New technologies in the market

Across all scales of application

Industry experience need for a few changes:

o Array frame earthing
o Earth fault alarm
o Power optimisers
o String fuses
o PV plug & sockets

6
Array frame earthing
& earth fault alarm

The PV array frame needs

an earth connection in most
circumstances

7
Earthing & earth fault alarm
Array frame earthing:
Allows DC isolation fault detection systems to operate correctly
(provided in most inverters)
Minimises the shock risk due to leakage currents on systems with
transformer-less inverters
Brings the UK in line with the approach taken in most other countries
around the world (and IEC standards/documents).

8
Earthing & earth fault alarm

Fault detection
+ fire prevention

More than just an LED on an inverter

9
String fuses

Generally, only required on one of

the active conductors

10
Plug and sockets

11
Fire section (fire alarms)

12
Power optimisers

Modifies the conventional

VDC-MAX = VOC x 1.15
IDC-MAX = ISC x 1.25

13
Larger systems

14
HV connections

15
Lightning / surge protection

16
Battery systems (Lead acid)

17
Whats NOT included?

MCS scheme requirements

Specific energy estimate procedure
Under consideration for use by MCS

18
d.c. power distribution
Practical considerations for d.c.
installations
Provides advice on the handling of d.c. circuits.
Differences in handling of d.c. and a.c. circuits.
Considerations specific to d.c. circuits.

Includes d.c. power distribution over proprietary

cabling and over a.c. power supply cabling
related to the d.c. Code of Practice.

For specifiers, designers, installers and operators
