Dear Parents,
What a great first week This week in Readers Workshop, we
will read, Animals in the Park To increase reading comprehension
we will look at these TEKS: Retell the story.
Real or make believe.
Informational Text: Expository (text that explains or gives
information; often contains photographs)
This week in Writers Workshop we are discussing topics that
would be fun to write about. In Math, we are working on counting
objects to 20. We are also learning to sort and differentiate
among manipulative materials by attending to likenesses and
differences. We are leaning to use our counting jars! In Social
Studies, we will be learning about school rules. Your child will
bring home a copy of the rules soon. In Science, we will learn how
scientist use their senses.
Snacks
We will do community snacks. Please send a snack at the beginning
of each month for 22 children. (Individually wrapped if
possible)Ideas: cheese sticks, crackers, bananas, peanut butter
crackers
Sand Toys
We would love to have used sand toys, new sand toys or
Tupperware with missing lids for the sand box. Play dishes would
also be great, nothing too nice because the kids on the weekend at
baseball games seem to move our things. (Any stray or mix
matched item would be great)
Behavior Calendars in folders
Please do not take these out at the end of the month. I save them
for my documentation. I will be teaching and reinforcing the rules
over the next few weeks with a lot of role playing.
Rules:
1. Do your work.
2. Keep your body to yourself
3. Listen carefully.
4. Talk quietly.
5. Speak kindly.
Consequences:
1. Student will receive a warning and be reminded of the
rules. The warning could be either verbal or nonverbal
(such as a tap on the shoulder, eye contact etc.)
2. If the behavior is not stopped, the student will have a
five minute time out. I will always speak with the child
and ask him/her to explain why the time out was given.
The child will be asked to brainstorm what could be done
differently the next time.
3. If the student continues the inappropriate behavior,
he/she will have five more minutes of time out and a note
in the folder to discuss at home.

note will also be added to the folder for a discussion at
home.
5. If the behavior continues, we will set up an individualized
positive behavior plan.
Reinforcements:
1. The students will receive daily praises and extra
privileges (nice work, great job, thank you, sharpen
pencils, sit in the teacher chair etc.).
2. Student will receive a happy face in the folder each
day that they have followed the rules, or have only
needed one warning.
3. Students are allowed to add marbles to the jar for
good behavior, individual and group actions, and
anything that needs to be reinforced.

Back To School Night
Thursday, September 7th 6:00-7:00 (This night of information is
for adults only) A PTA meeting will be 7:00-7:30. I will have
important information about our year. Bring any questions you have
as well. We will end the meeting with questions!
Ways you can support your childs learning at home:
Have your child read to someone each night for 10-15
min.
Have your child practice writing his/her name and the
letters of the alphabet. If your child is ready he/she may
practice writing simple sentences
Play a word wall word game
Practice opening lunch containers and putting straws in
juice boxes.
We will learn three words a week. The words are taught in the
order they appear on this list. All 86 word wall words will be sent
home on a list at Back to School night. There are games to practice
the words on the back of the word wall list. We also play games
every day to learn to read our word wall words.

Identify shapes
Identify and sort by 1 or more attributes
Generate a set using concrete or pictorial models
