Job Description

Title - Linux System Administrator


Experience - 2 -4 years

Education:
Under Graduate - B-Tech or MCA
Certifications - Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) ,Red Hat Certified
Engineer (RHCE)

Responsibilities
Able to support/manage all application and database deployment environment like
Development, Staging, Production and DR and able to setup/suggest policies to
achieve High Availability of running environments.
Install and maintain security patches on the operational and development system,
which includes but is not limited to, Red Hat Linux, JBoss, PostGreSQL, and Apache
web services.
Primarily able to diagnose the problem, actively able to resolve the problem/issue
and communicate it to end user/client according to the given SLA.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all
hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and
application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
System administrator needs to be available on call for any urgent support activity.
Should be able to give support from remote end as on required basis.
System administrator should be open to work on rotational shifts/weekends on
required basis.
Report Security Patch compliance in Online Compliance Report System (OCRS).
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all
hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and
application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data
are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are
created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
Create, change, and delete user accounts per request as necessary.
Contribute to design, construction, documentation, and deploy Application on
different Environment
Work closely with DEV team for application understanding if worked on Staging, QA
and Production environment
Engineering of solutions for various project and operational needs.
System performance tuning.
Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services,
settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and
project/operational requirements.
Install and configure systems which support infrastructure and/or R&D activities.
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
Contribute to and maintain system standard
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches
for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage resources.

Desired skills
Strong troubleshooting skills on Linux and Linux server administration
Strong knowledge in distributions like RedHat flavors, Debian flavors and Ubuntu.
Core system level knowledge (Linux Concepts, file systems, ACLs, Kernel, etc)
Good knowledge in Linux System Optimization, Security and server hardening
Experience with database (e.g. MySQL) administration
Experience with webserver (e.g. Apache) administration
Experience with VPN and administration
Experience in Version control system, GIT
Experience with monitoring tools like Nagios
Experience in storage configuration on Linux (lvm, iscsi, SAN, NAS, multipath etc)
Experience in working with Virtual Machines based on KVM.
In depth knowledge of system administration, user creation, file/directory
permissions, LVM, loading of software and system patches , TCP/IP concepts, NFS,
DNS, storage concepts, EXIM, POSTFIX, Apache, LDAP, performance tuning, write
and debug shell scripts
Experience with application Servers like Tomcat & JBOSS Installation, configuration
and Maintenance.
Experience in configuration and maintenance of open source mail servers such as
Postfix, EXIM and other mail server related technologies
Experience with Open source backup server tools

Additional good to have (optional) skills


Working experience on Automation tools like Puppet/Chef/Ansible
Understanding of virtualization technologies, different types of virtualization.
Experience with OpenStack or other cloud technologies

Other Details:
You should have 2 to 4 years experience.

You should have good analytical skills
Should be able to work on rotational shifts/Weekend on required basis
