Course Description Core Texts & Literary Focus


Both ENR and ELA are courses that involve
Quarter 1: The Odyssey by Homer
literature, reading, and writing.
Assignments associated with the courses Quarter 2: Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare
include vocabulary quizzes, reading tests,
Quarter 3: Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
and practice through daily assignments. We
will practice writing through producing Quarter 4: A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah
short essays, quick writes, and research
reports.
During reading enrichment on A days, we
will specifically focus on reading strategies,
comprehension strategies, and vocabulary Grade Distribution
acquisitions strategies. Bell work/Journals/Exit Slips: 10 pts each

During English Language Arts on B days, Interactive Notebook: 25pts (randomly checked)
we will review grammar and punctuation, Home Learning: 20-50 pts (based on length and complexity)
evaluate literary terms, and analyze
characters, themes, and plots. Class Work/Notes: 25-50 pts (based on skills assessed)

Quizzes Assessments: 30-75 pts (based on importance)


Please remember, students who have
parental involvement and assistance tend to Test Assessments: 100-200 pts (based on importance)
make higher grades and have less academic Writing Assignments: 50-200 pts (based on usage as a test

How to Make-up ID Requirement


Assignments & Hall Pass Policy
Make-up work is the responsibility of the IDs Your school ID must be with you at ALL times
