Fiji Times marks 148th

anniversary
Fijis oldest and most respected newspaper The Fiji Times has turned 148-years-
old on September 4, 2017.
The newspaper was founded by George Littleton Griffiths in the old capital of Lev-
uka in the year 1869 and has since stood against the test of time, changing many hands
of ownership over the years.
It was acquired from News Limited by the Motibhai Group on Wednesday, Septem-
ber 23, 2010 after facing months of uncertainty due to the change in Fijis media laws.
Reflecting on the unparalleled achievements and contribution to Fiji and its people,
Fiji Times chairman Kirit Prabhudas Patel said the newspaper is effectively re-affirming
our ability to continue to do good for our nation and its people.
For many its hard to start a day without reading The Fiji Times and this is because
the newspaper continues to serve as a watchdog and voice for the voiceless, Mr Patel
said.
He said people believe in The Fiji Times as it reports news without fear or favour and
is therefore a credible source of information.
We are proudly owned in Fiji and seen as a newspaper of integrity. Fiji Times is all
