1. What is a GT3 core?

It provides a framework to host the high-level services.

The core consists of OGSI reference implementation, security

infrastructure, and System level services.

2. What are the two levels of security available in GT3?

Transport-level security-based on GSI security mechanism.
Message-level security-implemented at the SOAP message level.
3. What are the features of grid service container?
The grid service container provides the following value-added
features:
Lightweight service introspection and discovery
Dynamic deployment and soft-state management of stateful grid
services
Transport-independent, message-level security infrastructure
supporting credential delegation, message signing, encryption, and
authorization
4. Define OGSI.
The Open Grid Services Infrastructure (OGSI) was published by the
Global Grid Forum (GGF) as a proposed recommendation in June 2003. It
was intended to provide an infrastructure layer for the Open Grid Services
Architecture (OGSA). OGSI takes the statelessness issues (along with
others) into account by essentially extending Web services to
accommodate grid computing resources that are both transient and
stateful.
5. List some grid computing toolkits and frameworks?
Globus Toolkit
Globus Resource Allocation Manager(GRAM)
Grid Security Infrastructure(GSI)
Information Services
Legion
Condor and Condor-G
NIMROD
UNICORE
NMI

6. Define the Virtual Observatory (VO) or World-Wide telescope

The Virtual Observatory called the World-Wide Telescope is under
construction in many countries. It seeks to provide portals, protocols, and
standards that unify the worlds astronomy archives into a giant database
containing all astronomy literature, images, raw data, derived datasets,
and simulation dataintegrated as a single intelligent telescope.
7. Discuss BIRN
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is pioneering the use of Grid
infrastructure for medical research and patient care through the
Biomedical Informatics Research Network (BIRN) project. Central to the
project is the establishment of a scalable infrastructure consisting of
advanced networks, federated distributed data collections, computational
resources, and software technologies to meet the evolving needs of
investigators who have formed testbed scientific collaborations.

8. What is GRAM & GSI

The Grid Resource Allocation Management (GRAM) is used to remotely
launch computationally intensive neuroscience applications.
The Grid Security Infrastructure (GSI) is a fundamental component of the
system architecture, providing authentication and authorization services
using public key certificates.

9. Discuss how grid technology helps to Federated Computing?

Grid technology has shown great promise to
manage effectively the addition and removal of heterogeneous
institutional resources in a dynamic virtual organization;
expose these resources to the entire worldwide collaboration with a
consistent set of protocols and APIs; and
provide mechanisms to control and optimize the enormous flow of data
from the CMS detector to scientists working around the world.

10. How Globus Toolkit Services is used by the Butterfly Grid?

Three functions that the Globus Toolkit can provide to the interactive
gaming application environment:
Staging and maintenance of a code base in a distributed environment
Scheduling, monitoring, and termination of application process
instances in a distributed environment
A monitoring framework for real-time instrumentation
