Details about revolution (something
that relates or can be compared with
the battle of the cowshed)
Old Major: He represents Karl Marx, the founder and father of animalism (communism),
although he could also symbolize the communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin In the book, for
example when Old major's skull is displayed in a similar way that the Lenin's remains were
displayed to the public.

Snowball: Snowball represents Leon Trotsky; he was one of the original communist marxist
revolutionaries, he became involved with politics and became of Russias biggest politiciansbut
when Stalin became more powerful he became Stalins biggest enemy and led him to expel and
exile him from The Soviet Union, he was declared a traitor and blamed for many problems of
The Soviet Union (animal farm). He was assassinated in 1940 in Mexico by a Stalinist agent.

Napoleon: He represents the second leader of the Soviet Union after the revolution, Joseph
Stalin. He had a rivalry with Leo Trotsky (Snowball) which led him to expel him, erase him from
Russian history and books (animal farm history, the battle of the cowshed, etc) and take absolute
power and control of Soviet Union (animal farm).

Both character also have a correlation with the education because in Stalins Russia he controlled
the media and education as in the book, he said what to be said in schools, in the newspapers, in
universities and on posters; he changed Russias way of thinking molded by his means.

Squealer: Squealer represents the Russian media or propaganda, which was altered and highly
controlled by Stalins means, and only spoke out with Stalins and communisms version of
things. Squealer changed the rules and commandments of animal farm to accommodate to
Napoleons means, and he did this because the animals were to ignorant or unintelligent to know
what was actually written (the ten commandments); the education was completely controlled by
the pigs and Snowball and he decided who could be educated and who couldnt; just as Stalin
controlled the masses by being an intellectual being and having his opinion marked on the
society, and because people were to ignorant and uneducated, the terms of communism and his
political views were not seen as clear as they were, and the result of this was people supporting
communism and don`t even knowing clearly what it means.
Squealer also spoke out as if Napoleon was an incredible leader and only wanted the best for his
people, which was the completely opposite, he always took advantage of the animals on the
farm, which clearly transforms into real life as the Russian and communist propaganda made
Stalin seem as a peaceful and great leader who looks for the best and only the best for his people
and the world.
